Big Horrible Down Time Today ( 19:21:58 SatDec 2 2006 )

Hello,

As you've probably noticed, our main server has been down for quite a number of hours today. The first reason was due to a power strip change at the datacentre, which took several hours. Unfortunately, they managed to lose our main server somewhere in the confusion of getting all the servers back up. This resulted in another 8 hours or so of down time for us while they found it and plugged it back in. Yes, we're as annoyed as you probably are.

Although the down time was nothing we had any control over whatsoever (and indeed was made much worse by the datacentre staff), we are of course offering a full apology for the entire network being down today. You should shortly find 3 months worth of credit in your Admin Centre, free of charge. Sorry.

Thanks for sticking it out. Now we're back up, I think I need a drink. :smile:

Thank you so much for posting this! I, along with my loyal members, were quite worried we'd lost our "home!" We even set up a temporary site so we wouldn't lose each other! Of course now that we're all back home safe and sound we can ditch the temporary site!

The 3 months' credit is a much appreciated gesture, though to be honest it is if anything too much...

Wait. Are you really saying it took them 8 hours to figure out how to plug the server back in?

Also, everybody should be aware that the credit you'll receive is for the minimum charge you'll receive for three months ($3.50 per month). If your bandwidth usage goes over the minimum, it appears the credit will pay for less than three months.

That actually is not the case Zherog, if a board goes over that they only need to come ask for it to be given the difference. :wink:

What is showing in the admin center is what BbBoy did today before logging off for the night. If any admin has any a busier community and posts about it BbBoy will gladly give them the difference. :smile:

You guys are the BEST. I've had my board (Chatterpugs) since Sept. 02 and couldn't be happier with bbboy. Honestly. And yes, thank you so much for the extra 3 months. We appreciate it!

You're very welcome Froggy & Nannerjoe, we're really glad that people are understanding about this problem we had. We didn't get any notice until after the networks were down. We thought it was only fair to compensate the admins and communities with three months of credit because we were just as annoyed and upset as you all were and we know how much you all missed your boards because we love our boards too. :smile:

I'm not sure if I should be amused or scared senseless that it took eight hours to figure out how to plug the machine back in....

Nope, about 7 hours to find it (it was on top of the cabinet), and about another hour to plug it back in and press the F1 button. Yes, really.

This is the first major issue we've had with down time for a good number of years, so I think we've been quite lucky, in the grand scheme of things.
