If you think you've found a bug, please read here first to see how to post about it, so that we can resolve the issue quickly and more efficiently. Also make sure you leave a link to your board or an example thread for us to examine. Thank you all for your BbSupport and invaluable help with bug reports you've taken time to post.
This is about the bug I mentioned finding in the Anniversary thread.
It may have already been mentioned, but if you don't close the tags on a quote properly, it screws up the post it's in and every post to follow. You should institute a function that checks to ensure that all your BbCode tags are properly closed to prevent such forum mishaps.
Also, even worse is that it's not always just quotes, either. It can also work with whispers, spoilers, or any BbCode that has it's own box.
I certainly hope this isn't a "clone" (duplicate or similar topic) thread...
If you use the select menu or click boxes you should always have a closing tag Xanathar. It seems only when peoplel type out the codes that mistakes happen.
Or do you have a link to a topic where you know the click box or select menu did not work properly? I do get what you're saying about adding some type of code checking thing, but I am not sure if we have plans to do so already or not.
I'll check the to-do list. The problem sometimes occurs when cut/copy-pasting quotes or other things into other codes, like pasting a quote into a whisper. Sometimes the tags don't get copied, mainly by accident, or sometimes you accidentally cut part of a tag and don't realize it. Of course, then there's always the ubiquitous typo error that occurs when typing tags, but I don't usually type tags that include windows (like code, whisper, quote, etc.)
Anywho, a tag-checker would certainly help matters, and prevent unwitting mistakes from turning into bugged posts.
I'll check the To-Do list, see if it's already on there. If not, then consider adding it, if it's not too much trouble.
No, there's nothing like that on the To Do List at the moment. If you use the BbCodes properly, there's never a problem - they are foolproof. I don't think it's reasonable to try and foresee every single careless mistake someone might make. I think it would be pretty difficult to include the tag error checking you describe - there are just too many variables.
You can screw up just about anything if you really try hard enough!
In light of the fact that we allow Custom BbCodes to be created on specific boards I don't think there is a way possible to make a tag checker work, because like BbAdminMod says, there are just too many variables. We are adding some new Networkwide BbCodes soon and that will make the list be almost at 20 total and that doesn't take into account individual boards whose Admins made special BbCodes for their members to use.
