Please post PM notification problems here ( 14:21:42 SatNov 22 2003 )

There have been several reports of problems with the persistent PM notice either not working or working too well. If you are having problems, please make a note of it here and include your full board URL.

Thanks!

I am not receiving alerts ( 19:47:17 SatNov 15 2003 )

Is there an "alert switch" somewhere my Admin has to flip? I am not gettin alerts reported by users, even though I am a moderator. I even changed email addresses to make sure it wasn't my system. Any ideas?

Hi Medesha,

I would think it is because the people using the alert chose to alert only the admins. Try it sometime-look and you'll see you can choose to alert annonymously or not, alert admins & mods or admins only. I am going to go do a test on your board to see if you get it now.

We tested the mod/admin thing...sorry, should have mentioned that. If you've already reported a thread, I didn't get an alert. Is it possible you need an account that's not like Yahoo or Hotmail?

No that shouldn't have any effect. Are you the only one not getting alerts? And is it just alerts you're not getting? Have you tried using the notification feature to see if it reaches you?

I tried "Report to Mods" and I didn't get it (I'm currently the only mod on). Then I tried "Report to Mods and Admin", and Maj (the Admin) got it but I didn't. Then we had one of the regular posters report a thread, both just to mods and to mods and admin, and Maj got the Admin one but I didn't get either...

What notification feature do you mean?

I mean using the 'Notify' link on a thread, like here on the lower left part is a button for Notify and clicking it will send you an email alert to let you know there was a reply made on the thread you have 'subscribed' to. It is strange that you would get one and yet not get another. Is your spam filter possibly catching them?

Alerts only seem to go to your original email address that you registered with-even if you have changed your email address properly and it is showing up in your user profile. I've asked about fixing this before.

In addition, if you have a hotmail account, you will only get a blank email with the header 'alert, etc'-it's a hotmail problem I think and was mentioned in another thread (yahoo works fine).

I believe we'd asked you to email us a copy of one of the alerts from the old email address anne123456 and that BbBoy would look into it if you did so and I don't recall you ever forwarding one...

I have the opposite problem, no one is getting pm alerts even if they have new pm's. This has been happening for a few days now.

lakemich - We had that problem a few weeks ago. I ended up changing the Bar Style form teh "Old Bar Style" to... I guess it's "Not the Old Bar Style" and added a link to the PM Inbox to the header on my board.

A "check for Old Bar Style" is in your Admin center, Edit Setting... Small Customization. The only visual difference is that the old bar style has a link the PM inbox on the bar, teh new one does not.

That and having everyone change to persistent PM notification is what the BbboardAdmin suggested and it seemed to work.

But now... now the PM notification has gone CRAZY!!! It's not a "be patient and wait for it to update" problem because it literally lasts for HOURS. You will continue gettgin notices when your last PM was delivered and read hours ago.

I turned OFF Persistent PM notification and I am still getting them.

And... I did not get a PM notification while going back and forth between pages on this board, but AS SOON as I went back to azure, I got a notification... and I keep getting it everytime I switch pages.

Everyone has their pm alerts turned on, we just tested a while ago, and I didn't change any thing on the board recently....

We'd really like to have our alerts back!

lakemich -
Here's a link to my tech support post about not getting PM notifications. I also posted about it the week before, but they started working again after I posted about the problem.

I don't know of the changes I made fixed things or if it just "started working" again. But... you can see, we had the exact same problem. One day they were working, and the next day they weren't.

Me too-been getting loads of PM alerts yesterday and today: 20 or more alerts for a PM I replied to yesterday. No changes have been made to our board in many many weeks (we're on azure).
