THE MAINE PATRIOT BOARD :: SUNDAY SERMON :: Limitations to Living Peacably

Romans 12:18 "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men."

So, the neighbor's kid puts a line-drive through your dining room window - ok, kids do things. Backing out of the drive, same neighbor's wife demolishes the mailbox - your mailbox. It was time to replace it anyway. The tree limb that was felled by another neighbor also felled a section of your freshly painted stockade fence. He apologized and borrowed your chainsaw to get rid of the problem. The list is endless. Life has it's issues as does having to live with people and the verse quoted above encourages each of us to deal with it as best we can and most of us do.

There has been a piece of legislation booted back and forth between the two houses of our Congress for some time now that will intrude into nearly every area of our private lives - UNhealthcare. Though not yet signed into law, it is getting quite close. The South and Midatlantic States have received a phenominal winter beat-down in just the last week or so yet with even the alleged scientists now backing down, the "Climate-changers" insist on forcing forward with more intrusive legislation against the American people's better judgment. Illegals in this country are not only at an all-time record high, there is legislation brewing currently that will whitewash all currently in the US and give them more tax-payer benefits than legal residents have or ever will have. Add to this injury to our sovreignty the insult that the Census Bureau will be counting ALL residents - without classifying any one as legal resident or other. This opens the door to major political power shifting due to population expansion.

As a result of the efforts of millions of tax-payers voicing their individual and collective refusal to maintain anyone in public office who votes in favor of the aforementioned shifts to socializing our Republic, both the Senate and House have backed off voting for any of them. So, the current sitting president, in his self-deluded all-wiseness and all-powerfulness has threatened to use Executive Order as well as a couple other means to do end-runs around the Congress to shove and push his marxist agenda down the collective throats of America in total ignorance of the Constitution.

Peaceable co-existence is quickly draining down the tube along with the means to support our uber-expanded deficit. It is my view that, should he continue on this "fast-track" end-run around Congress, he is purposefully provoking the American People to a showdown that not one person - including himself - could possibly want. A showdown that will have few, if any, winners.

A word about the verse above: it is, for the most part, fairly plain on it's face. I would offer a slightly adjusted alternative to the phrase: " as much as lieth in you". Some have understood and taught it to mean, "as much as lies within your responsibility or purview". To this interpretation I would say only this: this nation and it's maintenance was entrusted to it's citizens as was the Garden of old to Adam. That lesson teaches us that to violate the laws laid down would mean consequences he could not cope with. So it will be with America. Israel was given commandment regarding the taking over of Canaan yet they capitulated and disobeyed leaving their Lord and ours no choice but to use their actions as a "teaching moment" which they deal with even today.

I say that to say this: it is the responsibility of every American to participate in the maintenance of America by the means provided for in our Constitution and the Word of God. The issues facing us today are reaching critical mass without any signs of slowing down and while the verse is by no means a call to arms, it is still needful for every person to look to certain things in and about his own life.

1) Be on unquestionably right terms with our God, then with family and friends;

2) Put every possible peaceful effort into NOT letting things reach critical mass;

3) Be as prepared as you can for the possibility that things will reach that point of no return;

4) Pray that should things reach that point and beyond that it isn't too late for America;

5) Be determined that if/when they bring the fight, you will fight to win by any and all means possible.

Father God, help us every one to search for the means from You to live at peace in these trying and difficult times. Give us Your Grace to see beyond what could be just minor issues to view the bigger picture. Lord, You know if and when the strained peace will give way to violence and hurt so we ask that You bless, help and guide us in our efforts to rise not in insurrection but in defense and reclamation of what You gave us.
