Today's text:
Titus 3:14 "And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful." The Apostle Paul is writing this brief letter to his "own son after the common faith:", Titus. He is pastoring a church or perhaps even a small group of churches spread across the island of Crete. Paul's basic intention of this letter is to encourage, admonish, and exhort his convert- become-pastor as well as the Christians Titus will be dealing with while on the island. If you take the time time to read the three chapters, you'll see Paul's double purpose and find that our text verse is a concise summary of the epistle. Now let me ask you: how much good for needed use is a militia and one that is maintained for it's designed purpose? Our forefathers knew firsthand the evils of despotic rule and the graft, corruption and lawlessness that could develope within. They themselves were unwilling subjects to those very conditions and worse. Theft by the King of England of their basic subsistance was commonplace as was the advantages taken by his emmisaries - his troops. It was based on these things that the idea of a militia was founded so that no future American people would need to suffer at the unbridled hand of tryanny. Today, to speak of such an organisation much less admit to belonging most usually brings scorn, disbelief as well as an certain estrangement from some due to the demonizing the media has done to it. That is, to a certain degree, the fault of the militias or those who should have taken our Founding Document at it's literal word and not only continued them even after the first War for Independance was fought and won but even in the times which followed. But such is history and so, we are here today with a sullied name for no other good reason than the lack of proper maintenance. Some argue that militias are not necessary today because we have a standing military or local law enforcement agencies. Neither of those entities, regardless of their "lawfulness" were designed or designated to do the job of the militia. Our's was a nation founded on government of, by and for the people and the same was declared for the militia. Any militia was to be made of all men from 17 to 45 or 65 if he had prior service. The failure of responsibilities to maintain them falls on every shoulder from common individual to each State's Governor. I'm personally encouraged over the recent account of an airline passenger subduing a terroist onboard an international flight. To quote from a Follywood movie, "Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about!!!" He acted not only on his own behalf but also on that of the others onboard that plane. I see the mission of a militia being much the same. A threat appears and without second thought, the militia springs into action to quell whatever disturbance there is. For that we need to: 1) exist and 2) be trained AND in training. Would Abduhl have been as eager to wear that explosive sewn to his underwear if he KNEW there could likely be at least ONE militia member onboard who would make every effort to stop him? I doubt it. These manical, self-destructive idealogues count on the softness and unpreparedness of the world's population but mostly that of the United States. Keep in mind - that plane was headed for the US. The holidays are over for now. The world has not stopped turning nor will it. Nor will the continuing wave of hell-bent suiciders stop coming that will try to disrupt and destroy any part of this nation any one or group of them can. If for no other reason, we NEED to be ready so that our existance doesn't become "unfruitful". Father of Heaven, You have granted us a unique opportunity with the formation of this country. It cost some Patriots their homes, or livelihoods, or families or even lives. They believed You were with them; they trusted You to see them through their darkest hour. Help us to understand that we too have that same responsibility of maintenance today as those who survived and came shortly after had. Give us new resolve to endure hardness as good soldiers. In Christ's Name.... |

This part hit home for me. Where do we stand today as a militia? We should all look deep down inside ourselves to find out if we have what it takes to stand for our militia and country in times like this.
