Bedding - Floating the Mosin

I know. It sounds funny but if you want a good shot with the Mosin then you MUST do this.

Just look at the thread and you will see, them we can get together and do a few.

Re: Bedding - Floating the Mosin

I changed the name of this thread to help the hard of hearing.

This is something that will bring in your group by 3 to 4 inches.

Yes, that much. I have seen it on a few so far and I know it works. I wonder if it works other weapons?

It has to. Now I will be looking at all my rifles.

Re: Bedding - Floating the Mosin

in my custom sythetic stock i actually took some felt and put it between the stock and barrel , seems to reduce recoil and steadys the barrel seeing as most aftermarket stocks dont quite fit and the barrel kind of rides a mm or two above the actual stock

Re: Bedding - Floating the Mosin

I have seen a few with cloth for the floating,

I am using the brass shims. I am going to look into other items for the bedding. I am still going with the J B weld for bedding.

Re: Bedding - Floating the Mosin

i never thought about using JB weld........hmmm good idea though. when i bought my m44 custom the stock and barrel were separated about 4mm from each other and i could actually grab the barrel and move it up and down on the stock. i put 1.3mm black felt in there, glued it in then replaced the barrel, now it sits perfectly on the stock

Only thing i need now is a nice scope to go on the RIS rail that is placed where the rear sight used to be. i already have a aftermarket bolt on the receiver. instead of being completely horizontal. it drops at a 60* almost like a normal bolt rifle's bolt. and i'm getting a bayonet for it next week as well  woo hoo!

Re: Bedding - Floating the Mosin

I bedded my M44 with the sport stock this week end. It was a job. It didn't fit well so I had to grind a lot of the area where the frount mount blot is.

I am still grinding it down for a good fit but taking my time so I don't take off too much.

I will be doing a 91/30 next week end.
