7/05/2011.......The other two dredgers that are anchoring to bedrock are from Mike Dunns crew(one of the dredgers name I think was Smitt), using promac dredge...nice guys, said the womans husband was alot more understanding easyer to speek to then she was about tye off point. So different issue but same. johnnye4 |

I posted this on another thread(coming to the rogue)I will repost here: about 06/29/2011 I dont recall exact date, on 49ers access map betwween 7-9 on home owner side, my two sons and I had our 6hp evenrude start cutting out on us(forgot to open vent on can)so we ended up pulling up to guys property, not on his property but infrount of, home owner was quick in saying to us...said: I dont think thats a good place to dredge my pump is just down from you. His pump was 30feet away, I said no no we are having outboard issues and will be on our way asap...he visibly looked releaved.....possible issue if someone starts dredging there. There is a large tree laying horizontal in front of his property...and he is always outside it seems... this info is for anyone thinking about dredging along this stretch.....just info, do what you will with it. http://www.goldgold.com/newsimages09/rogue-map-thumb.jpg johnnye4 |

I was there early so most dredgers were not working yet. I did get to talk to two or three different operations and they were saying the water was not too cold at all. The water level sure has dropped since I was there two weeks ago. Everyone just seemed to be happy to have somewhere to get in the water again. The ones I talked to were not getting rich but were taking some gold. A couple of people say the gold was pretty consistant in quantity once they found it. I think I am going to try a place a bit off the beaten track, it looks promising, but only sampling will tell. I just don't like being right in front of a property owners house like the situation is upriver. I am going to sample with my trusty Pro-Mack 4". If it proves out and I get into a bit of gold I will bring in my keene triple five inch. Good luck to all, get out there and sample, sample, sample. Your paystreak is out there, but you do have to work to find it.

Next I told him that the property owner put up signs on his property telling DREDGERS respect our rights and do not dredge here, and since I was setup between the first and second fastest riffle in the rapids and it was dangerous just swimming over to my dredge and back at the end of the day. I decided to move. I floated the dredge down around towards the end of the Hardy riffle park, (not much of a park) and this is where someone pulled up two of my anchors and pulled my dredge halfway onto the riverbank, again it was my decision before I saw this that I was moving to another location as I was not getting much gold there. It was mentioned by Johnnye4 that I said that the owners property is again out to the middle of the river. When the property owner put up the signs, I wanted to find out who has the rights of the river, so I stopped a State patrol officer as I passed him, and asked him the law about this, he said that this land rights problem was again back in court and until it is solved, we dredgers could possibly be charged with trespassing if the owner really wanted to pursue it. I was not completely convicted yet, so I went to the Sheriff office in White City, Oregon (The Marine Sheriff) and asked them their opinion, this Officer had the same information, that the land rights issue was back in court. Sorry about the delay of writing the update, I am always on the go and I don't check this forum very often. Klondike_jake wrote: How many dredgers want to be on the Klamath? Last season on the Rogue below Gold Ray dam, my t80 snorkle was mysteriously broken off and removed. I doubt that anybody "shot" it. In fact my dredge was a point of interest any time that I was not present. Several tools and necessary items "disappeared". I never blamed the resident landowners, but I blamed the local dredgers who were a roaming band of mal-contents. Theives on the prowl. I met and spoke with everyone dredging in my area as well as every resident. I had zero problems with the landowners. People who accuse other people of "shooting" and destroying personal property on a public forum, need to swear out a complaint at the sheriff's office instead. If the sheriff won't accept your complaint, there's a reason. |

916-445-2841, wait for the options and press "6" to leave a message with the Gov's office, a live person will respond, a simple "Please tell the Gov to veto AB120". You can call at least once a day. Thank you, Dave |

Unless taking off or landing, the craft can't descend lower than 500 feet. Do you have your camera on board your dredge? If you see the chopper again, regardless who it's hovering over, take pictures. These folks can be tracked down and brought to justice. |

Oregon State Police do pretty much anything. Until somebody identifies the craft, who knows who it was? |

It is sporting a paint job that only a greeny could like. I would like someone to try and get the ID numbers from it. Did anyone take any pictures of it?????? It may have been a dredger paying to do an ariel view of the river like tracking the gold line by where all the dredges are lined up????????????????????????Who knows Mark |

Don't listen to roomers out on the Rogue. If this property owner approaches you personally, or you see him cut your dredge lose, then I would contact the Sheriff and make a report. |

I noticed today other home owners putting up same signs at water edge. I believe its possible to co-exist with home owners and their pumps...my boys and I have for 48 days. We had a problem with same home owner when a friend of mine came down for a day to kill fish with pole , he sat on land didn’t cast out just watched for 8 hours and at end of day when doing our clean up home owner came out and talked to me about fishing(killing fish)on bank is not allowed I said: yes sir my good friend came down from Redmond Oregon just for the day and it won’t happen again we will stay 100% of land next time...sorry, yes I kiss _ss, and didn’t have any more issues. We tie anchor in two spots in water and two places on trees and never walk on dry land and they say nothing to us....Home owner did say thank you for not dredging next to his pump I said no problem so we have stayed downriver from it, we either walk in water to get to dredge or we motor boat directly to it. I too said call Sheriff and get report filled to ? & ? but they shrugged there shoulders and said today’s our last day any ways.... that’s pretty much it. johnnye4 |

Brett1....High water mark is typical not down to where we are dredging....back when I had a home in 2008 in Redmond Oregon I received warnings that if I didn’t cut down vegetation between my property and road I would receive a ticket and also pay cost for it to be cut down professionally, this was city property not mine but city put responsibility of care on home owners, that is likely what is going on in goldhill OR with them cutting down and mowing down vegetation between there high-water property line and normal water-line space. johnnye4 |

This why I didn't buy on Rogue River, State owns from middle to high water mark, I believe being appealed, last decision still holds. On the clearing of bush or any vegetation at water line is a permitted basis with the State in Oregon too. The Josephine County Marine Patrol reports flow rate in certain areas at 50% higher rate than normal for this time of year. Be safe, when in boat, wear life preserver. |

Mike has been dredging in the rapids since June(ColoNuggets has provided more details on the forum) and for the past 2 weeks I've been video taping the daily surges of water being released upstream. When they do a release, the intense volume moves perpendicular to the natural rapids, slapping cross waves against the shore and wall of the canyon. From my counts, they are doing approximately 20 releases per day from 8 am until 5pm (the daily hours I was in the water). Our son John saved a rafter on Thursday who got into instant trouble because of the crazy surges. The lady had been moving down river in her raft and one of the surges came, which instantly threw her raft 90 degrees into the wall of the canyon, scraping her and her her paddle out of the raft and turning the raft over. She clung to the upside down raft while being helplessly swept downstream. We saw this happen in a matter of seconds and John quickly started the Zodiack and flew out into the rapids to get to her and was able to pull her in the boat and get her to safety. All of this happened so quick it was unreal! Seeing it on land made me understand what is happening underwater where Mike is dredging. Good gold, dangerous conditions. |
