In the past it has been OK to camp anywhere within any Nat'l Forest for up to 14 days. Would this be the general rule, or are there ways I can camp longer on a claim? But most importantly when and where was the last Bigfoot sighting within 100 miles of Happy Camp. I try to avoid camping alone in their backyard, if you know what I mean. ![]() |

As to staying longer than 14 days on New49er claims, the write-ups on the website will tell you if they allow long term camping or not. As to Big Foot, there have been many sightings within the Klamath and Six Rivers National Forests over the years. I don't recall any encounters in the recent past where there was a problem though. If memory serves me right, there was some equipment damage many years ago in a logging camp or two, but no harm done to the people. I think I would prepare more for Little Foot problems. Have fun and find some gold Joe, Mike |

In 2009, on my way to Happy Camp, I found myself driving through Yreka at 2:00 am. I was SURE I would site Bigfoot along Hiway 96 during the wee hours but did not. Isn't Grayback Pass named after the siting of an aged Sasquatch with gray hair on its back? |

![]() On a camping note, I see there is some kind of paved road and paved circle leading to the river and a big gravel bar at the lower end of K-25AB (Elliot Bar). Is that a potential camping area? Looks like maybe a boat/raft access point. Are such areas generally an ill-advised place for a miner to camp? Just wondering. |

And I do believe that there is a 14 day limit but check about a Notice of Intent and they might give you info to obtain an Administrative one year permit for mining on a claim. Unfortunitly the last I heard most of the Bigfoot left the Happy Camp area after seeing what the local townsfolk did to the last one they trapped....stuffed that critter and put her on display in the center of town....as a warning to the herd I suspect!!! http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/klamath/home |

All needed permits have been taken care of by the club. There is absolutely no need to look into or file a notice of intent on club claims. As a matter of fact, there is no need to file a notice of intent on any claims, even your own. |

I'm aware of the rules when it comes to BLM land, kinda shaky on rules for National Forest land. Just recently a friend here in Oregon asked about extended stay beyond the 14 day limit and I informed her about mining on BLM having no limit but had to do some research on National Forest and never found info on extended stay if you are on a mining claim. Can you post a link for my records? |

The club takes care of any extended stay on our claims. This is negotiated between the club and the USFS. Basically the extended stay is for the claim, not the individual, so any club member on that particular claim is entitled to extended stay privileges. You will find the information on which claims have this designation in our claims guide. |
