I am Mike Wiley new to the forum. I just purchased a claim for the Sunset Valley Mining Company, I bought 2 20 aces claims on the Klamath River, near Somes Bar and the claim is at Persido Bar. I was wondering if anyone has any information about the company or this area. The Mustang claim (on Main Klamath River) is located approximately 13.1 miles north (on Hwy 96) from Somes Bar. Lot #1: (10 acres) 0.16 mile on Klamath River NW: 41.541116N, -123.531193W NE: 41.541358N, -123.526459W SW: 41.540359N, -123.530162W SE: 41.540271N, -123.526053W Park: 41.542582N, -123.527595W N1/2- S1/2 -SW1/4- SW1/4 (10 acres) Sec: 5, T:13N, R:6E, Mer: Humboldt Lot #2: (10 acres) 0.14 mile on Klamath River NW: 41.542171N, -123.531181W NE: 41.542348N, -123.526521W SW: 41.541116N, -123.531193W SE: 41.541358N, -123.526459W Park: 41.542582N, -123.527595W S1/2- N1/2 -SW1/4- SW1/4 (10 acres) Sec: 5, T:13N, R:6E, Mer: Humboldt Any info would greatly be appreciated. Sincerely Mike Wiley |

I hate to tell you this, but you are now another victim of the Sunset Valley Mining Company and their scam. Another member has run the BLM LR2000 reports, and it appears that the claim you purchased is actually an "over-claim" of a larger claim owned by the Massie family (GPAA & LDMA owners). You need to IMMEDIATELY contact Ebay and PayPal and initiate a dispute. This company has been banned from Ebay under a previous user name, and I have caught them trying to sell a claim on the Klamath last year on Craigslist. They are a con game. I do not know for sure, but the club had a couple of incidents last year where people -- such as you -- purchased claims on Ebay... they were actually our club's claims which had simply been "over-claimed" by someone. The County and BLM do not check location notices before recording them, so it is very easy for this to happen -- and con men are taking full advantage of that flaw in the current mineral claim recordation system. Sorry for your luck on this, and I will be surprised if Ebay gives you your money back. Otherwise, welcome to the New 49'ers Forums! Sorry it has to be under these circumstances, though!

However, on your particular claim that you bought, there is an error in recordation that I honestly believe slipped by them. See, The location recorded by BLM for the "Mustang" claim shows as Township 11N, Range 6E, Section 5 -- however, the location that the GPS coordinates listed in the EBay ad (along with all of the pretty pictures they show) is ACTUALLY in Township 13N, Range 6E, Section 5. The actual location of the Mustang claim, as recorded by BLM, is in reality a worthless piece of hilly ground about a mile west of the Klamath and 12 miles south of where it should be. While it is not easy eating crow (tough as shoe leather!), I am willing to do it when I am wrong -- and I believe that, in this particular situation I was wrong. Now, that does not mean that they haven't been crooked in the past, and I am not going to make any claims about their past or continued honesty. I am just going to say that this time it seems to be an honest error. Providing that they correct the location error with BLM as I "suggested" to them, you will be the owner of one of the better claims on the Klamath -- a desirable area that has a good history of gold. I am pasting below my last EBay communication with them, FYI -- ====================================================== To: Sunset Valley Mining (sunsetvalley888) Ok -- first, I am going to get the "eating crow" part out of the way, then I am going to tell you about the error in your claim recordation that started this whole thing off. After researching the actual claims, plotting the T/R/S locations against the GPS coordinates you posted, and poring through the GPAA claim book -- I will retract my earlier statements. As for who is or is not the senior claim holder on any of the ones you mentioned, I am not going to worry about it; GPAA has had a serious problem with their Claim Book for years, and has been unwilling to fix the errors. That is for you guys to fight out. But it does not appear that any claims have been "claimed over" from what I can tell by my own research. So I apologize. HOWEVER... Your Klamath River claim, "Mustang", is not correct. There is a extremely bad discrepancy between what you cite as the GPS coordinates and what the BLM has recorded. And I think that this may be the root of the problem. All of the claims you have severed from the master claim are actually worthless, hilly, dry, land-locked areas , and nowhere near where you say they should be. The location recorded by BLM for the "Mustang" claim is Township 11N, Range 6E, Section 5 -- the location that your GPS coordinates in the ad is ACTUALLY in Township 13N, Range 6E, Section 5. The actual location of the Mustang claim, as recorded by BLM, is in reality a worthless piece of hilly ground about 1-1/2 miles west of the Klamath and 12 miles from the site you reference by GPS coordinates. I know that for a fact, since I have prospected the Happy Camp/ Somes Bar area for years. The other two claims you have posted seem to be correct; the "Rock Garden" and the "Big Sky/ Red Fox" claims agree on the GPS coordinates and the BLM-recorded location. Were I you, I would immediately cancel the "Mustang" auction until this is corrected, and make sure that Mike Wiley's purchase is corrected asap at no charge. ==================================================== |
