LipCa is right, tesoro. This thread is about not using a sluice, or having a sluice on your project if you are using a suction device. From what you have said, it looks like you are not even using a suction device of any kind, which means you are ok to go, you are only sluicing, which is perfectly leagl to do.

Sluicing or highbanking has nothing to do with the suction dredge regulations or the moratorium on suction dredging.

I realize that Lipca- but I've gotten so many different answers from the use of A Gold Cube (it's a highbanker etc) that I don't know how we can use it!!! All I want is a sense of clarification- what exactly is a Gold Cube? Can we use it as a sluice? No dredging involved- we are small time. We dig and sluice. We do it for enjoyment. We don't want to get our limited equipment and travel trailer and truck confiscated by big brother because we couldn't get answers! That's all I'm trying to find out. So sorry if my post didn't fit your category!:shrug:

Apparently, if Jim's answer did not answer your question, you do not know what a Gold Cube is? It is simply a set of trays with rubber mats for catching fine gold. You must screen down to 1/8 " before running material.
Certainly would not be used as a sluice would.
I use it to run concentrates or material that I have cleaned from crevices and screened to 1/8"
To answer your question, I guess you could say you could use it as a sluice even though it is not really a sluice.

At least this "loophole" gives us an opportunity to get in the Klamath and mine. We've designed our (small scale) suction device and will be out there without a sluice box.

I'm wondering however is we can keep the sluice in the truck, which will be over 100 yards away and then, once we're finished with the suction part, put that away (except for the pressure hose/pump) and bring out the sluice to run as a high banker.

Or, just leave the sluice at home and run the material at another location with the high banker. I certainly don't want to bend any rules here.

You're fine, get your gold and have some fun doing it.

"Bending the rules" is what we are left with. Ifn a prospector gets in trouble by bending some rules into a more managable condition, OK by me.

The time is approaching when rules imposed on prospectors will out number the pickers we all love so much.

Maybe if you hide your sluicebox in the poison oak?
