Unfortunately, it was I who had my gear stolen from the lower Salmon. Honda motor, pump, compressor, nozzle, and related equipment all taken in early August. No one saw anything, but I believe is was another miner - some homemade gear was abandoned on site. The location was formerly a GPAA claim which is now privately owned.
So we could have a claim jumper who is also a thief in our midst. Pretty much ruined the rest of my season...... Meanwhile, don't allow yourself to be an easy target like I was. A big lesson was learned. From now on, everything gets chained up and game cams will be put in place to capture anything going on. A good hammer drill will make it easy to attach eye screws into bedrock. And the game cams now a days are really small and very difficult to see without really looking for them. If anyone sees a regular honda motor with an unpainted pump and unpainted, gray compressor along with a snorkel with an automotive air filter attached, could you please PM or call me? It was all mounted on one of those Keene circular tote floats - mine was painted up in camo colors. The nozzle was a brand new 3" Hydroforce unit w/ 20' pressure hose. The suction hose was left behind. A long shot ever getting it back, but that's not going to stop me from looking. Thanks - Mark M. 530-469-3221 |

This is the first I had heard of this. Sorry for your loss mark. Please be sure to turn in a report to the sheriff.

Hi Ralph:
It's a good idea to take your equipment with you when you're done each day. Very few people leave their stuff on-site these days. We had our rope, a tarp and bungees taken from our site a couple of weeks ago. If you're not going to chain it, take it with you. Better to be safe than sorry. |

Maybe the thing to do would be to leave some lesser gear there with trail cameras and catch the thieves!!
Might suprise us to find out who it is. Most miners are honest. |
