Sounds quite positive overall, but I'll hold my breath and judgement until I hear what the judge says next. Meanwhile, I'm glad we were well represented both legally and in the manpower that turned-out. Wish I could have been there too!

"Jerry Hobbs, president of Public Lands for the People, stated that the attorneys were called into the judges chambers after the hearing. Judge Ochoa ordered the parties to particpate in mandatory settlement hearings starting June 24, 2014. All decisions on the consolidated court cases have been put on hold until after the settlement hearings."

Other than the unreasonable delay, what can this mean?

This does sound good, but like the rest of you, I am anxiously waiting for something officially positive. I'd like to express my thanks to everyone that has contributed to this fight, but there just are not enough words to express how thankful I am. :thankyou:

Any idea on what this "settlement" may entail?

My best guess is that it would require all outstanding issues in front of the Court to be resolved once and for all, because they are all connected in one way or another to these Motions.

Don't get your hopes up too high, because there are many different interests that would have to come together, some whose interest is only to prohibit mining on the public lands.

Though the judge has ordered that we should try. So we will. He will preside over the settlement discussions.

While I am just guessing, I'd estimate that there is a higher likelihood that the judge would rule in our favor, than all the interests will come together in a negotiated settlement.

We also have to keep in mind that this is already a near-record low water year in California's waterways, and there will be very serious concerns over fish by the time this all plays out.

Right you are, Dave. I hope that our side hammers on the scientific truth about the many contributions that dredgers make toward the well-being of fish. By the end of this summer, the fish may just be dying (literally) for a nice cool dredge hole to rest in. Unfortunately, by then it may be too late.

Keep in mind the river was typically like this before the dams went in and the fish thrived then.... they still do in spite of the DFW
