The Original Schmidt "Bazooka" Gold Trap submersible dredge

Field Test in GPAA's Gold Prospector Magazine...
Featured on the cover of Lost Treasure Magazine...
Used on Bob Denver's Treasure Search TV series...

TOP - 6" model, MIDDLE - 5" model, BOTTOM - 4" model

The SCHMIDT-GOLD TRAP, invented by Howard Schmidt, is the best thing that ever happened to recreational gold mining, unlike anything else on the market today. Nicknamed the "Bazooka", the SCHMIDT-GOLD TRAP is the first major innovation in gold mining since the old conventional dredge was first introduced. Miners now using the Bazooka say it is the ultimate gold dredge!

It's lightweight, under 20 lbs. and less than 5 feet in length. It moves more material than a conventional dredge and catches more gold. It's streamlined and easy to handle even in those remote areas never dredged before.

There's no bulky sluice, carpets, suction hose or pontoons. Clogs are not a problem, if it should clog, just shake the "Bazooka" and it's gone. Clean-out is a breeze, just remove the skid plate, put your motor on idle and drop your concentrates into your gold pan! The Schmidt dredge catches more fine gold, and won't overload, it's self cleaning trap means you can dredge all day without a clean-out (just remember to maintain the recommended operating pressure).

In field tests both men and women used the SCHMIDT-GOLD TRAP and had excellent results. Fine gold as well as nuggets were recovered. The "Bazooka", as we like to call it, can be used in very shallow water with almost no effort. or, it can be used as deep as you would like to go with some adjustments to horsepower on your pump and motor and by adding length to your hoses.

Your pump and motor can also be adapted to support "air" for deep water diving. They will help set up your configuration to fit your needs. If you're in an area where you need to get your tailings further away, or you need to dredge straight down, the "Bazooka" can be suspended under flotation and a suction hose can be added.

The Original Schmidt Gold Trap "Black Magic" Super Sluice

Its time to take along a little...
BLACK MAGIC
...on your next prospecting trip!

Schmidt Enterprises is very pleased to be able to offer you this extraordinary new mining product whichhas been designed to bring you more gold... faster & easier than ever!

The Inventor, Howard Schmidt, has gone and done it Again!

This brilliantly designed sluice box is lightweight, with uni-body construction of black ABS, it has no mat and no riffles.. and no assembly required! What it does have will truly impress you if what you want is all the gold!

The Black Magic Super-Sluice has a built-in patented gold trap collection chamber, a water scoop, and a grizzly! Just wait until you try it!

You Do Not Classify! You simply shovel from a streambed, bucket, or gold site - directly into the sluice box!

The patented technology that is used in all of the SCHMIDT-GOLD TRAP line of products allows you to trap and keep even the finest gold (along with flakes & nuggets of course!). The Black Magic Super-Sluice has 3 inlet tubes from the water scoop into the Gold Trap.Thereare a number of smaller holes in this tubing (inside the chamber) which keeps the lighter material loose, and this allows the gold to settle to the bottom of the Gold Trap due to it's high specific gravity. And there it stays, until you remove it!

The Black Magic Super-Sluice is also self-cleaning (just like all the SCHMIDT-GOLD TRAP line of dredges), and final clean-out of your concentrates is a snap!

Just what Schmidt unit do you have? The black magic sluice or 1 of the Bazooka dredges? If a dredge what size 3",4", 5",6" or the rare 8"? They are all first class gold getters but require a complete different thought process to make them work correctly.

Sorry I missed your email. I have been in ND. working in the oilfield and don’t see the home computer. You have a standard production 4-5” Bazooka dredge. The handle thing is probably a previous owner modification and looks like it might be an improvement. The skid plate is wrong side up, as it sets the edges will catch everything. That unit requires at least a 5Hp with a pacer pump. That set up will work as it sets as a 4”. If you decide to use it as a 5” you will need to upgrade to a 6Hp and a keene p-180 or equal. To operate run the system just fast enough to clear the rocks from the tube, faster will cause loss of gold. You can work up to 45 deg side to side and 60 deg front to back without gold loss. To clean up set the unit on a Rubbermaid type tub and open the freeze plugs run the unit and rock it till the catch box in clean, be careful not to let any gold escape.

You can't do much better than a Dahlke pump. I think the 4 hp would be too small if you tried to use it as a 5" or with air. I would move up to a 6.5 Honda or Kohler if you go that way. The bazooka is about the most fool proof prospecting dredge ever built. Several things are important and and you may over look them. First once you start dredging with the unit never set it down running. The way it is designed it will motor forward and quickly turn over, losing any gold in the catch box.If you must set it down to move rocks or get a drink trap it with large heavy rocks so it is nailed to the bottom or turn off the motor. The design of the unit is such that you never have to clean it out unless you want to. The catch box could easily hold several pounds of gold without loss. To clean it. You can just set the running unit carefully on the tub. I use a square Rubbermaid tub large enough for the catch box to set in with 4-6" of space all around and at least 6" deeper than the catch box. That allows the bazooka to rest on the top edge and the catch box to hang into the tub. Open the freeze plugs and drop them in the tub so you don't lose them or lose any gold that may cling to them. Gently rock the unit from side to side to shake all the cons out, use your finger if necessary as the tub will be full by then and all gold will wash off and fall to the bottom. You should have less than a 12" pan of cons if you have more you may need to increase engine speed or unclog the small clear tubes. Not enough cons or no face powder gold would indicate too much speed.
Dredging with it is totally different. Since all the spoils exit 4' from the noz. Digging deep holes is foolish without special equipment. This shines as a prospecting unit since it is small and lite and easy to get into remote locations. I would not want to dig much deeper than 3' with the 4" model as you can become quickly rock bound. If you have small hands and arms rock jams are easy. The bazooka doesn't need to lift everything above the surface so it has very lite suction. It is safe to stick your hand and arm up the tube and pull out the offending rock. You can equip it with several options to allow it to work in most any condition. You can even set the motor package on the beach like a highbanker and run hose to the suction unit. If you run into problems or have questions just ask I will try to watch this thread.

Re: Schmidt gold trap need instructions ( 23:53:57 SunJun 1 2014 )

Took it out for the day, ran it for 4 hrs ended up with tons of pea sized rocks and very little sand (blond or black) about 6 pans worth (wide bottom 14"pan) I can't tell if to much rpm or not enough hp (tried different rpm ranges)
the kids were going through my tailings and found a rock with gold stuck to it,
they had fun and found a little gold
not to bad of a sunday

Sounds like too much speed in there was no sand or gold. To test it set your speed as slow as you can and still move the rocks through when running it level at slightly nose down. That is the normal operating position. Run it for 1/4-1/2 hr and clean up. Adjust speed and run again until you get the correct mix in the catch box. Once you get a mix of mostly sand with a few rocks you can use that as a target result and experiment with other settings while running it up to 60 deg nose down. Be aware if you increase speed enough to easily clear all rocks at 60 deg. you will most likely blow most face powder gold out when running flat. You need to pick a style and speed for the type of dredging you are doing at the time and cleanup before making major speed changes.

I will try slowing down the engine. I have been bank dredging (booming) hoping that is my problem .can't wait till dredge season starts hopefully it will work better being submerged completely
also was watching gold fever today and seen Tom Massey at happy camp was that the same camp

I would bet "booming" with the trap IS WAY DIFFERENT than underwater. It was not designed for that....

The advice Rusty is giving you is for underwater, not booming. (I think)
