I went to 1-A today and found a lock over the 49er combo lock. When I went to the office I was told that FS put the lock on the gate and was told that I need to go around if I wanted to use the site. I asked if we could get a key to open the gate like we do at other gates. I was told to go to FS and complain to them. Do you really want us to have to start dealing with FS as individuals. I thought that the attitude at the office was a little lacking.

Hi Dave, Have there been problems at this claim that would prvoke FS to put a lock on the gate and prevent access? If not then one must wonder why FS would all of a sudden become somewhat advisary to the 49ers and restict access to a valid claim, it's not like everyone could get through the gate, only members that had your instruction sheet with the combination. This only adds to the potential bitterness towards FS, totally unprevoked by the miners !

Hey snakedude, no flame intended here really but that is not a true statment. Maybe that combo has been used by a non-member, and said tresspasser was caught there by FS who knows. Guess we'll see soon, very nice to see the powers that be 'get cracking' right away. very cool and Dave if you are not sure what or where I speak(my correction here) email me if ya want. I could call too just say.

I'm thinking that the lock should have been put on so either the FS or a New 49'er could get through the gate?

Yes; the lock was supposed to be in-line, so our members can get through. Somehow, the lock was disconnected from the chain. But it is fixed now. The USFS was very helpful on this. Sorry for any inconvenience!!
