Is this company based back in Minnesota or Michigan or somewhere back there? If so could you let me know?

That would be Coon Rapids, MN.

Nice Website, nice photos of the available claims and the Southern Oregon Chetco claims look enticing.

So... does one go to BLM with the information and ask if this is claimed already? I've heard it is difficult to get accurate and real answers.

I just did search , they are only about 10 miles from me .
And here I am not mining ?
I just did a satellite check , it is a residential area .
So it would seem someone may be working out of the home ?
I sent them an email .
I'll let you know what came of it .

Thanks for your replies ..Here's why I ask ..
If you look at their property listings, under California placer claims..And look at Honeymoon 1 ..That claim is on a public recreation area...Not open to mineral entry .
I am very familiar with this area,in fact I have a few claims there..They also have another property listed that I know is bogus, and they have been contacted about it ..
Just a heads up to anyone thinking about purchasing one of these properties ..Buyer beware ..Thanks again ..

Re: Sunsetvalley mining ?? ( 20:28:09 TueJan 26 2010 )

Sorry I did not get back sooner, been off the web. This is an F.Y.I. about Sunset Valley Mining. This time last year I was sent an E-mail from a friend (Rusty)who said he had seen my claim up for sale on E-Bay. I was a bit stunned and looked and sure enough there was pics of the area of my claim but it stated that this was a 40 acre claim with a different name than the claim I own, mine is a 20 acre claim. I found out the info on this company and a phone # to call. I called and talked to a Kim Culver. I explained to her that the area she was selling was my claim and NOT for sale. When I asked her for the legal description of her claim everything but the last half of the quarter section were the same so I left it at that and felt I had helped her make sure she was selling the right claim and not mine. I heard nothing more on this for most of the rest of last year. Then one day in late August, last summer I was on the claim and posting new signs to replace the old ones destroyed by Vandals during the year and lo and behold I find a mini-van with Florida plates sitting on my claim and a man and woman down at the waters edge just a prospecting away..... I confronted the couple and explained that they were prospecting on my claim without my permission and that they had to leave. Of course they argued that they owned the claim having just bought it off of E-Bay from, you guessed it, Sunset Valley mining!! Well, after pulling out my paperwork on the claim and showing them that I had owned the claim for a number of years I finally convinced them that they were in the wrong and had better head on down the road. The man kept going on about how the coordinates he had downloaded from the internet said he was in the right place. Finally they agreed to the fact that they had been taken and the last I saw of them was as they headed back up 96 towards Happy Camp and Yreka. They were going to check at the county offices and I haven't heard back from them since so I guess they finally realized they had been taken and are, hopefully seeking remedy from the proper authorities.
The info on the company who "sold" them the bad paper is
Sunset Mining Company
1845 99th Ave W.
Coon Rapids, Mn 55433
612-670-5781
persons name is Kim Culver
Pass the word they are a bogus company!!!!! trying to steal our hard earned claims. Mike

contact the better business bureau and the police dept for internet fraud in that city.
I would also notify them that if they continue to offer my valid claim for sale, I would be seeing them in court.
Perhaps a letter of warning from Brown, Smith and Jones Inc. informing him that they represent you and infer following litigation, if he doesn't cease and desist the unlawful activity of selling claims that are open ground and illegaly filing over their clients claims.

I have been on a couple threads here about this , and contacted them [ 3-4 emails ] , but do not have enough specifics to pin them down [ info about claims , not where they are ] I am about 10 miles away , used Google satellite to checkout there location , it appears that it is a house in a residential area .
I would be willing to help at this end , to find any details , and take any legal action that would straighten this out .

To Adawg, I chuckled too when I first found they were trying to sell the area of my claim and dismissed it as funny, but when you get to the point that you find someone prospecting on your claim and argung with you that they own it and do not have to leave, then it can get a bit serious. I was lucky in that the people I encountered were reasonable people and realized they had been taken but what if they had had as many weapons as I had behind me when I confronted them? I'm not saying I waved a weapon in their face, they were out of sight; but what if it had come to that? Somehow these people need to be stopped before a situation blows up and gets out of hand and someone gets hurt because of some A#*hole and their need to screw someone over and make a buck doing it. All you claim owners need to be aware that it could happen to you next. I'm open to suggestions on what to do and how to do it. You all have a great day. Mike

If anyone wants to challenge the validity of the 40 acre Klamath claim on eBay right now, it's as easy as contacting them stating that Sunsetvalley is selling fraudulant claims. Anyone that has bought from them on eBay using Paypal can get a full refund upon proof of fraud. John

Some of you that have had claims filed over by these guys should contact ebay and tell them and include the facts of filing on open areas, (not open for claiming). You will get satisfaction.

Looks like they have 329 transactions on E-Bay at 100% client satisfaction. Click on the #329 next to their name and you'll see most of the sales were ore samples.
Seems to me if someone got a bad deal on one of these claims sold on E-Bay, they would complain and file a Negetive feedback.
Curious...

Bill

I am sure that the buyers were given a deed, driving directions to the claim and other information and then they posted 100% client satisfaction. It is hard to go back and change this after it is posted.
There are a lot of these type of people out there over filing on other peoples claims and then selling them. Then it is up to the original claim holder to prove he is the legal claim holder in a court of law. it is to easy to over file on claims and BLM just records them as they were legitimate as long as the fees are included. Heck there are a lot of snakes in the grass that over file on your claim hoping you make a mistake with the paper work or forget to turn in your paper work on time just to be first in line to snatch up your claim.
Things have not changed much in the last 150 years, as there has always been shady dealings with mining claims since the gold rush started.

There was another outfit out of Portola doing the same thing and made a bunch of money defrauding folks. Bet some on here remember them, and there are some that will defend them. Not wanting to get anything started, I'll not mention their name. I know it for a fact, I had some of their auctions pulled from ebay as they used to be mine and lost to "Power withdrawl & PL267. Example - Race track Point in Yuba county on the NF of the Yuba. Declared by BLM not open for mineral entry and yet they let them file as did the counties.

Yes; they are also trying to sell claims filed over some of our holdings.

I've seen some of their answers, and they clearly are just trying to take preexisting claims away from miners, based on administrative technicalities.

The people they sell to are going to come back on them (for sure) if they don't fully disclose the conflicts. The people they sell to are not going to want to fight with miners who already own the claims!

No way we will back down on what we are holding!

These kind of guys don't make it very long in the mining industry. We've seen them come and go. It won't be any different here.

Copied from the Prospecting forum:

If you own a claim on any river or creek in the Klamath drainage, you need to go to the website shown bewlow and check very carefully that your claim or part of your claim is not listed for sale.

My beautiful Salmon River claim is all mucked up because of these creeps. I am in the process of enlisting (expensive) legal help to fight these claim jumpers - they are putting paperwork all over the place, clouding numerous claim titles in the process. This is, of course, illegal, but the BLM won't do anything about it. So myself and another miner are moving this into the legal arena and are prepared to take these people down.

If you are affected, please PM me. If you know anyone who is a claim owner in the area, let them know. Our lawyer tells us this stuff is starting to happen all too frequently now that gold has gone up in value.

If you are a non-resident claim owner, (a person who has the papers on a claim) and there is gold free for the taking on it, maybe you ought to think about becoming a resident claim owner. Nobody is going to protect your rights other than yourself.

My property remains my property because I make it so. I respect other's property and keep my hands off. However I am in the minority.

Claimjumping in any form has always been rampant throughout history. I believe if you have gold in the ground you had better act as though you sincerely want it enough to keep it.

The old 49ers lived on their claims. The New 49ers just last year resorted to a security force. We live in an imperfect world where theives will pick you clean unless you yourself stop them.

Re: Sunsetvalley mining ?? ( 01:12:17 TueMar 9 2010 )

I have a claim on the Salmon. I bought it and payed quite a bit for it . I did this because I thought the claim was in a good area and I wanted to be able to enjoy it for many years. Now we have the dredging moritorium which took that away from me.
I watch ebay and look at the claims for sale. I noticed claims being listed very close to mine. This was in June 2009. So I watched and I saw a claim for sale filed over my claim. I looked up the CAMC number and got the phone number of the seller. They are Sunsetvalley888 on Ebay. I called them and talked to the wife. She is doing the business. I explained to her that she filed over my claim. She did not listen well, did not believe what I said and took a superior attitude towards her knowledge of the mining claim process over mine.

Now the rest of the story. I told Sunsetvalley888 that LR2000 and Geocommunicator can not be relied upon. I think she bought a book on how to file claims to make money and is using topo software or BLM Geocommunicator to paper file her claims. How does she sample the claim, post signs in California when she lives in Minnesota? If she sampled my claim then she was trespassing and stealing minerals. My clainm has signs posted and I have owned it several years. The claim was listed several times on Ebay and someone bought it. Now I will have a confrontation to deal with when I go to enjoy my mining claim. I will not buy another mining claim. The system is full of fraud.

ok.....they also overlapped my claim on the Salmon.
I contacted them a couple of weeks ago(after Mike M. called me). Talked to "kimberly". She was very polite. Commented that BLM and geo were not up to date and inaccurate. I sent her copies of my Location Notice, current Waiver and current Assessment Work.(all available at BLM).
She called me as soon as she received my data and said their location would be amended within about two weeks.
I'll give them the chance to do what they promised and let you know.

Ya that begs the question , how can they legally create a claim without being there and doing the discovery ?
Then the assessments ?
They could , with a lot of bodies doing the foot work , but I suspect they do not have enough feet on the ground to perform the requirements ?
If it was that easy I would be doing it , its been since the early 90s since I was out there last and worked the no. east the most .
Now I live here where these [ can not say on line ] these holes are , I have been ripped off multiple times before , and would love to take these people down , or be part of it .
Of course that would be after finding out for sure of the facts .
