Schmidt bazooka dredge - fine flour gold? ( 17:52:10 SunDec 30 2007 )

I have a question about Schmidt bazooka dredges. I have been to Africa twice this year to set up my company's new dredging equipment. My two mining concessions are in the Congo.

This summer I saw a few Schmidt bazooka dredges for sale (4, 5 and 6 inches) and bought all three models. We have been testing the dredges in Africa with a 5.5 HP, 250 GPM water pump, with 15 feet of hose. Unfortunately the gold trap gets filled up with sand within minutes! We respect the 20 degree angle rule to prevent gold loss. (Otherwise the dredge seem to work fine, there are no clogs or damaged hoses.)

The rivers' depth is approximately 2 to 4 meters during the dry season and contains 90 % of sand and gravel less than 1 inch in diameter. There is a lot of sand, (crocodiles and hippos included!!)

All of our gold is VERY fine, 300 mesh and smaller.

Does anybody have tips to remedy this situation?

thanks a million,

Pascal

Pascal

What are the elements on a bazooka dredge that make it surpass a conventionnal dredge? If you are recovering as much gold as your are telling me. Why you would run so much high value material trought a dredge that has a recovery sluice box of about ten inches long. It is like trying to recover diamonds trought a normal dredge, you are discarting more diamonds that you are keeping.

thanks/merci
take care

Hi Pascal, nice to hear from you again!

As we discussed earlier, my current dredging operation consists of 6 inch conventional dredges. Because of the fact that the alluvial deposits contains exclusively flour gold, we are evaluating other extracting techniques which would recuperate all the fine gold. It seems that we are losing more gold; after three hours of dredging there is a lot of fines at the at the end of the box.

As you mentionned earlier, an hydraulic jig would be more appropriate for my oprerations, however we are testing many systems to figure out what works best.

Since the 3 bazooka dredges are on location, we'd like to evaluate its performance, (and that will only be achieved once we figure the reason why the gold trap gets filled within minutes).

thanks,

Here is an old link I just ran across that has some outstanding information on Bazookas.
