If you were going to be in Happy Camp for a year and was going to highbank and metal detect and was new to prospecting, where would you start. I have been studying the claims for a year and there are so many that I would not know were to begin. I will be on a fix income. I have a 4x4 truck,atv, boat, highbanker, vacpac, and I am 72 yrs of age.

Very little metal detecting has been done up on any of the claims, most just go dredging. There are many claims for highbanking, look at the newsletters and see if one suits you. If you don't want to cross the river then I would camp and work in the dry channel above savage rapids near the begining of it, right on the curve of the road. Worked there myself as has Dave and both of us did real good. Back breaking work though.

Good suggestion Lee that area has most everything. Good parking/ camping, easy access,only a couple of miles to Siead for store/lunch and gas. Another great area is Indian creek I 2A and I3. There was a lot of mining in that area in the old days and some old workings come to the river. Access is not bad and it is almost totally shaded in the summer.

Socal, I like that end of the river, but like the idea of living in HC. If gas was not an issue I would live at that end.

Rusty, I have had my eye on Indian Creek and the two spots that you suggest for sometime, they look promising. Thanks guys as always you have good info.
