I'm retired and have a fairly strict budget for metal detectors. I've spent two weeks researching the under $200 detectors. I'm mostly down to three: Garrett Ace 250, Bounty Hunter Quick Draw II, and Bounty Hunter Quick Silver. With an eye to the White Prizm II. I'm leaning toward the Quick Draw II . I've had store owners say to get the Garrett. How does the Garrett Ace and Quick Draw compare and why choose one over the other? Anyone with some advice would be welcome.

None of these machines will give you any depth, but can still be fun. You did not say what you would be looking for in the way of treasures, but if you want to do some gold hunting and metal detecting the only machine that will do both is the Tesoro Compadre for about $185. Made in USA and has a lifetime warrantee. (last time I checked)

What are you planing on detecting for? coin shooting and relic hunting the ace 250 is great but sucks for gold. as for the bounty hunters my opinion is they are all garbage bounty hunter sucks. If your wanting to detect gold the Lobo super trac is a fine machine but there a little higher in price $800 new from the factory or around $600 on ebay i think there is 1 listed on the GPAA forum right now for $500

A fun way to check out some metal detectors is on youtube. Just search for ace 250 or another popular detector and watch some videos while the weather is bad.

Another one of the less expensive options, "which I have had some luck with" is the Minelab Eureka gold with the ten inch gold search coil option. I have used the Lobo too, and I liked it as well.
