Snow on the crest ( 22:14:31 MonMay 12 2008 )

Has anybody been over the road to Cave Jct. and know what the snow conditions on top of the Siskiyou's might be now?

Unless one of the timber companies needs it open faster don't expect it to open before the end of June, if then. Forest service recorded record snow pack this year at that elevation and that means a long time to melt.

Thanks for the responses gents!

Unfortunately, that's just as I figured. I'd heard that the mountains in SW Oregon had gotten something like 500% of normal this last winter, so I kind of figured the crest would be quite awhile melting out.

Maybe I'd better plan on a late summer / fall visit this year.

Thanks again for the good info!

Hi folks,

Hey Rusty, on another thread you thought Grayback might be opened up this weekend. Have you heard if this is so?

I'm looking forward to coming over the hill. Are the potlucks up and running? We've been having some good clam tides over here on the coast and I thought I'd make up a big pot of clam chowder for everyone.

Thanks,

Mike O'Connell

Potlucks are schudeled to start next Sat. June 7. As of yesterday the pas was still closed. As usual they took low bid, and I hear it was less than half of the closest bid. Does that help to explain the delay?
