Alert: My truck broken into along the Rogue River while dredging... ( 15:21:59 MonJun 27 2011 )

Yes folks it happened. I returned to my truck to see a smashed window passenger side and a quick grab of my cloths from the perpetrators. Luckily my wallet and keys we elsewhere in the truck.

But my precious $650 iPhone were in my pants pockets. In record time I took out my 4" sampling dredge and stuffed it in my truck and went home to get on my computer hoping to track my iPhones whereabouts and to call the Sheriff.

I got on my Mac and turned on my "find my iPhone" software (which I pay $99 a year for, which will be free for everyone in Sept) and located it and the perps in Grants Pass at Albertsons.

While talking to the Sheriff telling them what happened and where my iPhone and the perps were, they started heading south toward California. Sheriff told me to call them if they end up at a house.

I lost them going through the forest to the coast as Verizon service cut out for a bit. They turned up at a house in Crescent City California. All this while I am keeping the Sheriff updated as to the location.

They left the house and I lost the signal for the entire rest of the night. I gave up on finding them and my phone until morning as it was 1 am already.

I awoke and returned to my Mac locating my iPhone at a motel in Crescent City. This was 7:30 am. I was in contact with the Crescent City Police dept. I updated them constantly.

The Sargent in charge went to the motel and told all the guest that were there around 9:30 am that if they had a stolen iPhone in there possession and did not want to go to jail that they leave it in the room when they check out.

At around 12:30 pm the Sargent returned to the motel as per my information as to its precise location. I let him know that I can make the iphone make a sound right here from my Mac.

He said "what part of the building should I be located?" I told him as I was looking at a picture of the motel I got from Google Street View. I counted the doors and said "go to doors 3 and 4 starting from the left of the inside corner".

I made the iPhone make a horrid sound and I heard it on my backup cell while talking to the Officer. He said" you hear that?, that is your iPhone! Now how do you turn this thing off?"...I told him the code to make it stop.

It is now on his desk in the Crescent City Police station which I and my good friend Jim Yerby (aka chickenlipwillie here on the forum) will take a road trip today to pick it up and see the beautiful Pacific Ocean as well.

Be careful out there folks along the Rogue River! Be alert and steadfast in your awareness of your surroundings. Keep personal stuff hard to get to in a fast grab or hidden away.

My glass in my truck will be replaced Tuesday, and I'll be back on the Rogue on Wednesday...a bit pissed off to find more gold to make up for my loss.

Take care everyone!
Alan

Bearkat:

Seems the Crescent City police should have stood outside the motel rooms and then arrested the perps for the theft.

What is wrong with this picture????? They just let the perps go, and they continue to damage and steal.

Sounds like a lazy---lazy justice system to me.

Sorry for the troubles and the losses. I will ask my GOD to give you a paystreak for your troubles.

There were several thefts last summer also. I lost things from my dredge but not from my truck.

I was not nice to them, its just that they left the iPhone in the room and checked out and the cops can't arrest someone without the item in hand. We also do not think the person (girl) who left it in the room was the person who stole it from my truck. She was a meth head and she did not even know if she was in Oregon on Sat. Cop talked to her later that day.

I want them all in jail and to pay for my f...ing window. And an a~ kicking also!

I am now back in Oregon with iPhone in hand.

Back to mining...

Be safe out there miners!

Bearkat, what area was your truck parked in? Was it the only vehicle there or was it in a day use parking area or just on the side of the road? Any info would help us maybe avoid parking in certain areas. John

I was on a gravel pullout on side of road of a small trail leading to the river on the 234 side of the road near the water pump house.
It was parked by itself.

However I had parked it by itself just couple hundred yards up stream along same road for the previous week. Just wrong place at the wrong time.

bearkat that was a nifty way to find your phone! Really glad you got it back. But like others, it seems those who stole it should be in jail, maybe yet, huh?

Re: Alert: My truck broken into along the Rogue River while dredging... ( 23:56:25 MonSep 5 2011 )

Here's a news flash from the local Salem, Oregon police department. "Minor offenses will not be prosecuted". What is a minor offense; "pretty much anything except rape, armed robbery, aggravated assault and murder. Why; "There is no money to house and prosecute".

The liberals of Salem, OR where I live are ecstatic, saying the minor crimes (robbery, vandalism, simple assault, etc.) these people commit is not their fault... but a fault of the system for not taking better care of those who are in need.

Salem is one of the rescue cities of Oregon where illegal aliens are welcome and supported. In addition these lenient positions are pasted in the local papers so everyone can see it.

My opinion; the illegal aliens are not the largest offenders. It appears if you are from another country (don’t want to name countries) you will likely be helped by your own kind. No worries that 15 people live in a two bedroom rental. At least they are not stealing my stuff.

The bulk of the “minor crimes” are committed (in this area) by gangs of (don’t want to name colors like black or white) people who are just having fun or who have lost their jobs and not eligible for state or federal assistance. Times are tough out there and wont get better for some time.

Sorry you got your phone stolen – it’s time to put up those decals that show a revolver with the slogan “protected by Smith & Wesson” and mean it!
It’s either that or get out your wallet and support the down trodden drug addicts. After all it’s not their fault.

Sorry... just venting.
