media strikes again ( 16:04:19 TueAug 2 2011 )

I am mad as h@#ll, I saw a news clip last night about the new 49ers on a redding (or Chico ) station.
They were talking about the dredging moritorium and how it was so detrimental to the environment.
Now it seems to be heading into the highbanking, saying that it is like "Modern day Hydraulic mining".
Again trying to shed bad light on this club and miners.
Saying that we " Wrap ourselves in the american flag) to ruin the environment.
That news clip was a farce, slanted tword the greenie factor so bad it made me sick.
When is this madness going to end. Richard from this club was on there, he seemed to get a small interview in there but not much info on the miners side (I am sure that they edited it so that the part of Richards interview ) was only what they wanted.
They also went into how some folks are dredging agains the moritorium, as if they were modern day outlaws.
I have to admit that I only caught some of this story and maybe missed some but what I saw pissed me off.
I may have to miss some mining time so that I can go do some investigative video of the negetive impact that gill netting and illegal fishing practices, all of course in the guise of " our native american heritage".
You xxxx right I respect our flag, the story sounded like it was a bad thing believe that we have some rights.
I'll stop right now before I type how I really feel.
The evidence is clear, even though it is ignored.

Re: media strikes again ( 18:01:40 TueAug 2 2011 )

I finally got to view the video... it is on the KTVU Channel 2 website out of Concord, CA.

This was not a news report -- it was an attempt to assassinate our industry. Plain and simple.

I will agree that it is extremely slanted -- however, I believe that there could be a Slander & Libel issue here. The report claims that miners are engaged in banned mining methods -- but offers no proof of that. That is Slander when they put it in writing, then Libel when they said it on the air.

My next question is why was Leaf Hillman allowed to spout his opinion as if it were accepted fact -- when he is a convicted felon (drug offense & assault conviction)? And this Toz Soto -- equating high banking with hydraulicking? Not even close -- but the inflammatory pictures of 1890's hydraulic mining operations they showed are what will stick in viewers' minds.

Personally, I am now even more convinced that I have made the correct decision to move to Oregon. As a Club Member, I am convinced that ALL miners in the state need to band together as one group and fight the Karuks & environmentalists. Unfortunately, as a realist -- I do not see dredging ever coming back in California, and I see the loss or severe restriction of every other form of mining off on the horizon unless something very unexpected happens.

That sure as hell DOES NOT mean that I am giving up, though!!

How about that comment from Hillman about the death of the fresh water mussels being caused by the miners dig. What a crock of sh!&. He even said that the mussels had no where to go! Newsflash, they don't move and the waterline is ten feet below the shells.

I love California but why do we have so many idiots in the state. Seems like it's a general thing with society. Loss of skills, work ethic, and knowledge. All replaced by TV and whatever the hell people decide is correct as supported by someone elses assumptions.

My own younger sister is going this route. Liberal as hell and about as informed as a snail. Makes me SICK!

Why don't we contact KTVU and see if they will run our side of the story??

it won't work, we actually have scientific evidence on our side. it is not a sensational story to put out the truth.
they don't make any money talking about the bland truth.

He also said that digging holes on the gravel bar is destroying salmon spawning beds, which species of salmon spawn above the water line?
One thing is for certain, we need to develop a counter strategy soon or we'll only be able to read about prospecting…

Re: media strikes again ( 01:24:20 ThuAug 4 2011 )

You are right, folks…..the “you know what” is getting really deep out there. We are losing the public relations battle to a bunch of outright lies. This is because we have not met our adversaries on their own battle front.

The scientific fact remains that small scale dredgers are actually beneficial to fish. We know this because we have been “down there” to see it. The hogwash that the Karuks and the green Nazis are spewing is not based on scientific observations whatsoever.

Native, juvenile, and migrating fish must find sufficient food, shelter from predation, cool refuges from harsh temperatures, a place to rest from swift currents during their exhausting migration, and suitable spawning habitat. Small scale dredgers provide all of these, and dredgers are the only waterway users who provide any of these important benefits that the fish so greatly need.

Have you noticed that none of these so-called scientists have put on a wet suit and actually gone down under to observe first-hand the relationships between dredgers and fish? The videos that the opposition relies on are usually benign, long-distant shots that show a stream or river, but none of what happens between the fish and dredgers. These videos are simply meant as a vehicle to fool people into thinking that they are legitimate observation.

They don’t want to show how fish use our dredge holes to escape predation or to survive during the summer when the river is shallow and dangerously warm. They don’t want to show how juvenile fish hide in our cobble piles to escape predation or avoid being swept away by swift currents caused by a sudden storm. They don’t want to show how juvenile fish swarm all around an operating dredge like pigeons around a popcorn stand, gobbling up the free food that is suspended in the dredge plume. And they don’t want to show how our tailing piles that have become flattened and stabilized are used as spawning beds by fish for a period of several years.

We dredgers need to begin filming all of these interactions between dredgers and fish, and create a documentary video that shows the up-close, scientific truth about what really goes on “down there”. Only then will we be able to combat these fabricated lies that are being foistered as scientific truth. There is no scientific evidence that a small scale dredger has ever harmed a single fish. REPEAT! Not one single fish!

But, we have to get on the ball and do something. If we just sit around and take it, we are going to lose. What’s it gonna be…..fight or flight?

If I lived in California instead of Massachusetts, you can bet your booties that I would be trying to do this!

I would have to agree on the fight, but even a video ( there are many out ther that show the interaction of fish and dredger) would do no good.
The other side, judges, and polititians have had hard copies of the scientific (non biased) proof presented to them and they choose to ignore it. guess we don't have enough "green" to grease the wheels.
one way to fight is when the voting comes around again, vote for the ones that hopefully can't be bought. Someone with morals).:whoohoo:
we have alot of good folks out there that are taking the lead, and I am glad that I have supported them with all I can.
At the very Least, our side can hold up our heads and say outloud "WE DON'T LIE". WE are not defeated yet !!!!!!

Re: media strikes again ( 19:01:50 SunAug 28 2011 )

The Internet is an extreamly powerful tool...... We need to start using it to our benifit.

If EVERYONE started carying cameras and / or video cameras while we are out there prospecting / mining and started recording what realy goes on out there we could put together one heck of a web site about mining and the benifits to fish, fishing and the environment....

Video the Karuks when they are washing out diapers in the rivers, throwing their beer cans and bottles all over the shore and in the river. Video them KILLING fish with their contraversial, and many times illegal, fishing methods (including gillnetting without a license, snag fishing like I seen many of them doing while there, ignoring the laws and catch limits, etc.).... We need underwater video of the interaction with the fish and video of our clean-ups showing the amount of lead sinkers, shot, heavy metals and mercury we remove and a true representation of how much we clean up the river and the gravels.....

If we could get someone with media and web experience to put together a site with a You Tube style (closed and private movie downloads only by the moderator after aproval) video liburary including selections on Environmental Improvment, Rebutals (including scientific and other proof) of reportss like the one you are talking about and mabe a section TEACHING others about modern mining and getting more people interested....

The site would have to be non-interactive and under full control of the moderator so the Greenies don't go on there spouting their lies, with links from every major Gold Forum, you-tube posting and equipment manufacturers web site leading people there....

It could be used to post the truth about the Mining Act and how, in violation of Federal Law and State Laws, the Greenies and special interest groups are paying off our polititions to destroy an industry that helps the fisheries, the environment and the local communities.

It's just a thought.... Why not use what we have available to get the truth out? Facebook, you-tube, twitter and other sites are visited by millions of people every day. If A "Truth About Mining and Those Out To Destroy the Industry" were created and EVERY miner put links to it from their twitter, facebook, you-tube and other sites, I'll bet it wouldn't be long before it would be swamped with viewers who would see our side of the story....

Most importantly, the site could be used to call EVERY politition, forest service person or Judge who violates their Oath and the Law in order to serve their own Personal Agendas or line their pockets to the Carpet and demand their Justification for their actions.....

I have no idea what you are thinking, but I can pretty much assure you that he would come down very hard against us!

You can get a Kodak Playsport HD video camera for about a hundred bucks now. It's rock solid and waterproof to ten feet. - Might come in handy the next time you see a Kurok rinsing a diaper in the river.
