Using a 4" suction dredge with a 5.5 hp engine, I'm wondering what kind of lift I can expect. Or to put it another way, how deep can I go underwater?
Thanks for any information or advice |

Based on experience, I would say 8' to 10' if you go slow. I would hate to have to have more than that plug up.

Something that is not talked about much is having matched equipment. Most dredges from the larger companies start out with equipment that was designed to work together fairly well. However with age and multiple owners they sometimes end up as as a poorly assembled bunch of whatever was cheep when you needed it. Also as pumps age and suck sand, from having your intake too close to the bank the clearances open up. This seriously reduces the max. pressure they can attain limiting the depth that they can work. Lip is right on with the 8'-10'estimate. While a new high performance unit can exceed that, most older ones will struggle at that depth.

I have been 12-13 feet with 4" 5.5hp honda you got to go somewhat slower and listen to all of the rocks as they talk to you in the hose.. keep a sharp eye out for the trouble rocks. I like 6-8 ft alot better.
