Devestating loss. I have enjoyed the nuggets display numerous times back in the mid-90's.
They have numerous large tree limbs out front and surely should make use of two or more of them when the rats are caught. I have always marveled at the size and found locations. Show no mercy for those cowards sheriff!!!!!! Beammaker----Wyoming |

From Siskiyou Daily News
http://www.siskiyoudaily.com/topstories/x1622354387/Courthouse-burglarized Yreka, Calif. — YREKA –At approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Siskiyou County Courthouse was burglarized and several millions of dollars-worth of gold was stolen from the glass case at the courthouse entrance, said Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) Public Information Officer Allison Giannini. According to Siskiyou County Treasurer Wayne Hammer, the total value of the gold in the case was $3 million. The total value of what was stolen is still being ascertained. Giannini said that the suspects also burglarized two downstairs courthouse rooms, though information regarding any missing items from those rooms is not available at this time. Officials from the Yreka Police Department (YPD) and SCSO responded to the courthouse at 7:10 a.m. and discovered that there was an open (not broken) window in the back of the courthouse, said Giannini. Investigators viewed the security cameras and a preliminary investigation revealed that the burglary was carried out by two men. The suspects broke a hand-sized hole in the glass encasement that contains the gold. They took the large pieces of gold and left the small pieces, said Giannini. “The object that was used to break the glass had be something heavy because that is thick, unbreakable glass,” said Giannini. It is unknown at this time whether the alarm sounded following the break-in. The length of time the suspects were in the building is also unknown at this time. Asked whether this burglary could have been an inside job, Giannini responded, “We are investigating every possible avenue at this time.” The courthouse entrance, including the elevator, was taped off as of noon Wednesday for authorities to process the crime scene. Court-goers entered the building from the back, where officials used magnetic wands to perform security checks. Those in wheelchairs had to be maneuvered up the stairs to the courtroom, as the elevators were part of the crime scene. Updates will be posted on Siskiyoudaily.com as information becomes available. An article about the burglary will appear in the Thursday edition of the Siskiyou Daily News. I agree that it is a terrible historic loss of our mining history. But I would not even consider putting my prize gold nugget in a court house, that can't provide proper security for a $3 million dollar historic collection of gold nuggets. And has admitted that the thieves entered through an "open window" !! ![]() .... Jim |

I was sitting in my living room in Koronadal City, Philippines, at about 7:45 AM, when Fox News reported a gold theft from a court house in Northern California. I had an immediate feeling of surprise and anger. Even though they did not mention the city where the gold was stolen, I knew that Fox News was describing the the city of Yreka.
I hope they recover this gold and return it for not only the people of yreka, but for the people all over the world who appreciate history!! As I can remember when I saw this collection, certain nuggets were donated and labeled by individuals who can be traced back to the late 1850's and early 1900's? |

Ha-Ha!!! That would mean Montine would have to quit cooking -- and you wouldn't want that to happen! LOL! But to be fair, Rusty -- you are starting to look a bit chubby... maybe you need to get back on the river? LOL! |
