I have been holding off my first visit of the season to Happy Camp, waiting for better weather and good digging conditions (where the ground isn't too moist), but unfortunately for me, the weather reports don't really tell much of that area. So, I thought this would be a great place to check on conditions....
How are the conditions at K-15? Is the river level up? How about soil conditions? It is a pain in the butt to classify damp soil, and my highbanker does not do well with unclassified material, so soil moisture matters to me. I'd like to get to digging soon! The temperatures look very good to me, but I see rain in the forecasts... Should I wait another couple of weeks before heading that way? |

Last week was warm and almost dry. This week looks about the same. We normally get some rain through the end of May but seldom the serious downpours that are common in the earlier year. If you want it dry and hot than shoot for June through Sep. The river is running fast and probably about 3 feet high at K-15.
