Oregon claims, any luck ( 07:03:52 ThuMay 3 2012 )

Was thinking about joining this club and was wondering if anyone had any significant luck at the new oregon claims. More specifically, does it look like you're getting better color than dole?

I sampled a little on the Upper Umpqua one day not too long ago and found this in my first sample. The water was very high then, and I suspect it still is, but I am predicting good times for dredgers in the new claims this season. I don't have a dredge, but will have diving gear, so hopefully I will get in a little under-water time this year!

Well yes...prospecting the upper areas of the S Umpqua was quite easy finding color. And it looked very much like Oregon Jim's pan in most of our pans.

Always would get some fines just like around Happy Camp on the Klamath and the good part was the occasional decent flake appearing in my pan.

I'm very interested also in how the dredging will be...there's got to be some nice paying pockets up there if the banks hold this nice gold.

I walked up to a boulder near the water and scooped out about a half-bucket of material from the base of the rock, and the gold in the picture is what I found. It was just that simple. I firmly believe the river is going to yield some wonderful pockets of gold. To be perfectly honest, I am just heart-broken that I was not able to purchase a dredge this season. Knowing that gold is so close, yet still beyond my reach has me feeling low..... For those of you lucky enough to dredge this season, I think the Umpqua is going to be very exciting!

Dirt, Dave will post here as soon as the claim situation is finalized. It's a big job to bring it all together.

But other than that, there is still lots of opportunities up there for dredging and highbanking. It looks like crevicing and mossing should be good too, from the reports posted here.
