Greetings All,
I'm seriously considering becoming a member of the New 49er's. I have no experience gold mining, only prospecting with metal detectors, and some commercial and sport diving. I would eventually like to buy equipment and a claim, but think joining this group would be the best possibility to gain knowledge and experience before making any large investments. That said; Are there any miners/dredgers that would like an apprentice this summer. I would work for free, at least until you decided I was irreplaceable or your conscience dictated otherwise. I have a lot of resources; Motor home, enduro, 4x4, trailer, tools, scuba gear, weights and a great work ethic, with lots of remote field experience. I own my own business, so I can pretty much write my own schedule for the time being. I'm under no illusions about getting rich doing this, but I do like the outdoors, lifestyle, and the idea of the possibility of the rewards. I would also consider investing in some equipment if I got with the right group of people and it would assist in the operation. I live in Ashland, Oregon, so North or South is easy for me. Let me know guys, as far as I can tell it's a win-win proposal. I welcome any feed back you all may have. Thanks Sincerely, Mike 541-301-1496 mcross169@gmail.com |

With a proposal like that, I would take you on without delay if I had time to operate my own dredge this summer!
But I'll be busy between Happy Camp, the Rogue and the Umpqua, mostly helping on member dredges. This is exactly the right approach for getting started in serious suction dredge mining! |

Mike, I am in just about the same situation. I have a 2.5 inch highbanker/dredge combo and will attempt to get some use out of it on the upper areas of the S. Umpqua, but I also hope to get in a little time helping the others. I hope this will be a very exciting sumer for us newbies!

Thanks everyone, for the encouraging words. I'm heading over to Gold hill for the weekend to snorkel/raft and do a little scuba if it looks safe. Raise me on the cell phone if you need help putting your dredge in the water

Mike C,
Your attitude is highly respected and wanted within the gold dredger's camp. Capability ain't bragging it's doing. You might help some deserving owner/operator rise up into the 10 oz gold class. |

Thanks Rod,
Capable is as capable does. There's definitely no substitute for hard work. Maybe luck; it's great, but being lucky and good, that's got to be a winner! I figure I've still got to pay some dues and earn some trust to enter the group. I wouldn't expect it any other way. Hope to see you on the river. Mike |

OI can recommend Successful Gold Dredging Made Easy.
I first watched it in the mid 90s on VHS with my brothers, we knew right then we wanted to dredge for gold, the info. is priceless, and when you see all that GOLD just lying on the bedrock you will be changed forever, especially wen it happens to you, can I get an amen. I uncovered my first untouched paystreak on the Klamath in 2003 it was just down stream of an inside bend, one of the places Dave ses to look in his video, it went for some distance downstream, with 1'- 3' of stream bed material on top of rough serpintine bedrock, one of the most awesome experiences in my life. Cal. gov. has no common sense any more, but at least Oregon still dos. Now let's get some GOLD ! Joe |

Rocky, Thanks for the recommendation, I'll definitely check it out. What you described sounds like one of those life changing indescribable experiences. I sure hope I get to experience something like that, where I have to remember to breath because I'm stunned with elation. I could wear that grin for a long time. I'm grinning just thinking about it.
Got accepted on a beautiful dredge today, start tomorrow AM. Everything is falling into place. Man, I'm excited. And, with such smooth transition into the business.....feeling Lucky too! Good hunting, Mike |
