I am curious. How many club members are planning on serious dredging on the Klamath or Scott claims with an 8 inch or 10 inch necked down to an 8 inch dredge starting now or in May through the end of this year?

I'll have at least one of the big dredges in the river this season. But I'm not on a 49er claim.

Will be there with the Beast in about a week to resume mining on the paystrek Mike and I found Last season about 5 to 10 Dwt a day when we work hard at it avarage 7Dwt per day dont really Know if will be able to float the dredge we were right on the verge of getting beached and talings were a problem every day.

Craig, ain't this the time of year when we get higher flows? Like you, I was hoping for a moderate spring flood to move some of the tailings outta the way. A 2 foot rise up your way translates into 5-6 foot rise down in the canyons.
You are right Rusty. I ought to be ashamed to show pics of that bitsy 8". You ought to have been there when wifey let the cobbles pile up on the end of the sluice. We nearly had us a submarine! Bigger dredge: ![]() |

Hay Bud I Was not in Happy Camp this winter so I really dont Know what it did to the talings My girl friend Milissa said it did not come up enough to move any major gold around Need a super flood to do that.Anyway where we were Dredging it was pretty shallow and the material was about 10 feet to bed rock so the tailings were pretty overwhelming I think me and mike killed a couple of our tenders with tailings last year including me will see when we get up there and check our spot out.If we cant get in were gonna go down river past Happy Camp to Dredge I know of some Spots I want to Sample Might be Really Good?

Craig, It should be about like you left it. I would guess the water is about 3' deeper on your spot today but is dropping. We had no flood this year so I would guess your hole is still there with some light silt in it.

Craig, I would like to see more detailed photos of your machine if you don't mind and don't have any top secrets you'd rather not share. I am thinking of building one of my own beings I can't seem to find one in a price range I can afford.

Hey Craig, are you winching off of your dredge platform or setting up your winch on the bank? I was kinda curious if your platform would handle the load.
|
Craig_Colt_CBCmining Offline 36 posts ![]() Reply |
IM winching from shore but I made the Frame of my Dredge so it could handle a winch if mike and i wanted to put one on.

I've seen treasure hunters [ at sea ] use anything that will hold air , drums or bags , fill with water to sink to what you want to move , then pump air into containers to raise / move .
In shallow water like rivers streams , make a sail to catch current to pull down stream . |

If I'm not mistaken, Jim Foley's wife Marcie that passed away, her sons built that floating platform and it is in use. Saw it up on the claims up river for the last few years.

Here is one side done. I have just enough room to add one more center body I can do that for next year.

does that sit high off the water or is that an illusion?
|
colo_nuggets Offline 453 posts Reply |
It will sit high in the water, A triple with these pontoons would be around 12 ft wide you could never trailer it. But I have a idea to increase the suction that would be easy to do, need to check into it first. The pontoons are 36inches around.

MojaveJoe Offline 61 posts ![]() Reply |
I like those black pontoons. Look real rugged.
If that baby sits too high, just pump some water into the pontoons to lower it. Maybe use a 12V bilge pump to evacuate the water when its time to move or trailer it. Heck, you could even change the sluice angle doing it. Sure would like to see that dredge run  |
silverdog Offline 76 posts Reply |
is thier a certain mathematical system to building a large sluice box say for an eight inch dredge and the amount of water your pumps run,or do you just buy a large pump for a large motor.
|
UncleMark Offline 531 posts Reply |
Silverdog
If you are building you own system, yes, you need to match pump or pumps to sluicebox width. This is true for any size dredge. There are many factors that affect sluice width, ie pump size, single sluice, over under sluice, triple sluice, or a dual sluice like Craigs. Also the higher above the water that your sluice box sits, the more power you need and the deeper you plan to dredge the more power you need. More power = bigger pump = wider or deeper box. There is no math for all situations, it depends more on pump size. building power jets is just as involved. Give us a better idea on what you want to build and I am sure there will be many members who will post to help with details. |
