Since announcing last month that we have recently acquired the richest mile of the Klamath River in northern California, quite a few members have already been showing up to prospect through the snow-covered ground, even in the pouring rain!
Jim Yerby just published a short video-enhanced story about he and several prospecting buddies who made the trip just a few days ago. They also stopped to get some images and video of an additional new 3/4-mile stretch of Klamath river we just acquired that is also going to be fantastic for high-banking and crevicing both above and below the water! You can find out all the details in our February newsletter right here. |

You guys are good!
Yerbo, your best written report so far, keep it coming. Bearkat, black leather jacket, rubber boots, and that same familiar twinkle in the prospector's eye. Dave, I'm not sure if you're making a film for mass viewing pleasure but, you got some opportunity here. Oh yeah, gold in the pans. Looked pretty chunky, that stuff adds up quickly. I checked the Klamath River flow for 2/1/13 and it was 2,500-2,700 cfs. It should drop to -2,000 cfs in the dry season. It'll still be fast and a tough stretch to dive. Somebody ought to make a strike worth bragging rights. :thankyou: |

Did some scouting on the new property at Independence, saw lots if bedrock sticking up out in the river. There was a couple guys who already had claims flagged. The weather was warm, and no snow was present at the time I was there.
Old building by Indepedance creek. ![]() Stumbled across this nice crevice, had to clean part of it out, it extends out into the river. ![]() Looks good ![]() |

That sure looks good! Did you ask the others how they were doing?
How is the water? Is anyone working in the river yet, or are they working just the banks? How is the water clairity? I'll be there soon... |

Did not see anybody in the river yet Jim, I didn't get any gold reports sorry.
The river is cold whith decent visibility. |

Thank you for the report!
I watched the new videos of the claims, observing the water as well as I could. The video with James and Alan discussing one of the claims showed the water to be BEAUTIFUL. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9f_Qugq65I I expect to be in the water soon! |

hey rocky,
you saw flags for claims but nobody on the river? how about equipment? these are the guidelines: "If you locate a gold deposit, you have the right to claim the deposit–or at least a portion of it. A person working up on land is entitled to claim a 30 foot radius from the location he or she is actively mining. If you are there first, and another member or registered guest wishes to prospect or mine in the area, please mark your 60-foot circle boundary so they can see where your claim ends. A person must be actively mining or be actively moving equipment to the location in order to claim it. Equipment sitting idle for a week or more constitutes abandonment of any right to claim that area until the person resumes mining activity. If another member starts prospecting activity in any area abandoned by someone else, the new person has a right to claim it." |

LipCa, the one flagged claim was being actively worked by a member. I dont know about the other flagged claim, was not down on that section of the property for long, didn't see any power equipment being used, from the looks of things members have just been doing a little high-grading whith hand tools.

Thanks LIPCA for chiming in on the 60' rule and claiming areas and not being present. There is no such thing as "saving" a claim. You must be actively mining or making arrangements with the club office. We have run into this situation in the past and this year we may have problems what with the interest in our new areas. Common sense and courtesy should be the rule of the day. Good prospecting to all.
