Some days I actually HATE people
I went with Yvonne yesterday to collect a dog that we had rehomed the week before.
The lady phoned me and said her personall life had changed and she would have to give him back. OK things happen. Fortunatly we had another couple that would have been ideal for this particular dog, so we phoned them and they said they couldn't wait.
When we went to get this dog he was affraid, cowering and so unhappy. To be honest Yvonne and myself were nearly in tears!
The week before I had handed over a 12 month bouncy pup that I couldn't walk he was pulling so much!
Infact at one point we discussed finding a vet and getting to look at him he was so unhappy:smash6:
How a dog can be changes so much in a week!!!
At least she did come back to us that's one good thing.
She admitted on the phone she had hammered him:smash6: yet had seemed so nice:sad:

I'm glad to say he is going to have a wonderfull new life with his new mum and dad.

Oh it just makes me want to cry! She managed to that much emotional damage to him in ONE WEEK??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!

It must be so hard for you two to see these things going on and not being able to do anything about it - it would break my heart!

Thank god he is out of there now! He looks an absolute darling!

How people can be so cruel to any animal is quite beyond me, just hope he isn't mentally scarred for life, we all know what sensitive souls boxers are (or is that just big softies?) People like that ought to be locked up :smash6:

Re: Some days I actually HATE people
Jacquie hats off to you and Yvonne - I'm a fairly reasonable person but if I had witnessed the change you had and the person responsble had admitted to giving him a good hammering I think I would now be enjoying breakfast at one of the local police stations.

What a shame that she did not get back to you sooner ie; the next day and say sorry I think I have made a terrible mistake I really can't handle this dog. At least then he may not have suffered quite as much.

Hope you both are OK and that you are both now able to look at the more positive aspects, at least she did call you and you were able to find a suitable new home where he will be loved, cared for and his needs understood and catered for.

I know you probably do anyway - but as and when you next see him, it would be great to see a picture in a few months time where I'm sure he will look a lot happier!

Keep up the good work - wish I could help more but geographically we are some distance apart, Paul

Ps - tried to persuade the other half to move upto Scotland (Inverness) but she won't have it, likes to have her family close by - maybe we could all move? Unfortunately the Welsh are as passionate about their identity as the Scot's so can't ever see it happening so will have to stick with holidays in Scotland - better than nothing though!

Re: Some days I actually HATE people
Thanks for that Paul.

She did not admit to "hammering" him to our faces, I think she knew she'd be on a sticky wicket so too speak:smash6:

It was on the phone after she had been contacted about the state of him:nonono:

Anyway as you say he does have a good home now, and we can only look to the future:roundnround: He is going to spend his weekends on a boat on Loch Lomond! ( when the weather is warmer )
We do keep intouch with the familys and spot check them every now and again. They have said that they will send photo's when he has settled in properly.

Great news Jacquie - weekends on loch Lomond sound good to me any chance you could re-home me with them as well?

They certainly sound a lot more genuine, I'm sure he will be fine now.

Take care, Paul

Oh my god - weekends on a boat!! I have this imagine of a small boat and a lunatic boxer charging up and down it! Can you imagine the fun that is going to be for him - and his owners! Great stuff!

I am so glad that he has found a caring and responsible family to love him, let's hope he will have a smile on his face soon!

Inverness is a lovely area Paul but dont stop there! Head up to Wester Ross - you will never look back!

Re: Some days I actually HATE people
Hi Karen

We go up to Inverness every year except this one as Lynne is expecting and due in May - she tells me I am the father!! Only joking about the father bit - can't wait another lunatic to the household, what more could you want?

The first year we went we stayed near Drumnadrochit - (don't know if I spelt that right) and it was great. Last year we went a little further inland on the road to Glen Affric, which I can honestly say is one of the most impressive places I have ever been other than Glen Coe, I really do feel at home in Scotland maybe something to do with my family origionally being from there. We have now traced our family tree back to the 1500's to aberdeenshire, Scotland truly is my spirital home but for now Wales will have to suffice.

Back to dogs - can he swim? If not he had better learn fast or get a doggy life jacket - imagine the fun trying to get a life jacket on a boxer, better than that imagine the face on him afterwards!!

Take care all, Paul

Nessie lives under Urquhart Castle - everyone knows that!!

Drumnadrochit scares me - too many tourists wandering around in sunglasses looking glazed! You can get three under one wheel in the summer!!

Re: Some days I actually HATE people
Must get bigger car Karen - we used to have a Saab 95 estate it was massive, the No of tourists we used to trap underneath really was satisfying!! We have a Mondeo estate now I will have to see how that compares!! Yes you are all right it is the home of Nessie, but I have to say we much preffer going to places a little off the beaten track so please don't blame us for cluttering up the place.

Do any of you / or have you ever been to Nairn beach? we go whenever we stay near Inverness and the dogs love it - it's dog heaven! The best part is the where the forest begins it's greatttttt.

I'm getting itchy feet now - wish I cold jump in the car and find a little place to stay at weekends in Scotland, but the drive would kill me - 9 hours in a car is no fun + I'd get he blame for pushing up local house prices as well.

I will take all the advice on how to trap tourists on board for next time I am in the area!!! We normally travel on the "eastern" side of the Loch if we have to drive that way, the western road can be truly frustrating with all the people suddenly deciding they need to pull over and look for Nessie, or just drive along at 10 mph just in case!

Been to Nairn beach on a couple of occasions Paul, but don't really feel the need to travel as we have Lossie beach, Burghead beach, Findhorn beach, Culbin Forest and Roseile Woods which are all a little closer!! Awww sorry was I bragging!

By the way - Congratulations on the new arrival due in May Paul!! I hope Lynne is feeling well and healthy.

Note to self -"Remind me to sabotage Karens PC - she has too many nice places to walk dogs, must infect it with a virus far too much gloating".

Ooooooooops that happens sometimes, sorry Karen I was writing out loud if you know what I mean?

I fear we have a smarty pants in our midst - we have Porth Cawl beach just dwn the M4 - Oh what fine views of one of the uk's largest steel works!! But seriously we do have some nice walks but unfortunately no good beaches within a 30 min drive.

By Eastern side do you mean the road from Fort Augustus to the east side of inverness that takes you through all the mountains and then drops to slightly more level ground - from memory it emeges onto a main A road south of inverness which also leads to Avimore?

Stopppp I want to move, stop torturing me!!! Can't take anymore must go and convince Lynne to move.

I wish Lynne was a glowing preganency person - but far from it I'm afraid, she says this is the last one - shes had enough already. She is ok though which is the main thing I will pass on your congrats.

I await more smugness from the Scots ooh you love to gloat, I bet we have more sheep than you!!

Yes Paul, it emerges on the A9 which is the main "up - down" road in our area.

We go to Spey a lot too Jill to go wildlife watching. Did you know that on a good day you can see seals, dolphins and osprey there??!!

As for the sheep Paul - I don't think we need go there!!

Seals, Dolphins and osprey- see, your doing it again!!

Do you have a world heritage site only 3 miles from your doorstep - we do its Blaenavon Iron works, I'm told it is of great importance as it was the 1st and largets in the world. The fact that the area also still bears some of the scars of open cast mining seems to have been overlooked. Oh and did I mention the sheep?

AAh the A9, Paul

please stop - no more, I submit the countryside and wildlife in Scotland is far superior and we cannot compete. I hope you are all happy now, did you kow newport steel works is over 1.5 miles long?

I'm sorry Paul! That last one wasn't meant as a brag - honest! Mind you, this area is defnitely worth bragging about, but I would still swap it for Sutherland or Wester Ross any day!

Iron and Steel works are the foundation of our industries so they are definitely worth being proud of

I promise to keep quiet about Scotland but I would just like to point out that I can't claim to be a Scot, (only in as much as Rod Stewart can - my grannie is one!). I have adopted Scotland as my home, I just hope it adopts me too!

Re: Some days I actually HATE people
he's doing brilliant. Started to emerge form his shell and trying to rule the roost! As only boxers can. Will forward you the email I got.
Thank goodness it worked right in the end. Just a thought will copy and paste it here
Hi Jacquie

The boy has emerged from his shell big style.

He's starting to behave like a boxer - just plain daft !! Fav toys have
been established as empty plastic lucazade bottles (think I'll have to be
"unwell" for a bit longer to keep the boy in bottles). Bottle tops quickly
removed, no matter how tightly attached.
The squeaky ball no longer squeaks - he's sorted that one out this
afternoon too.

Such a change over the last 24 hours - now starting to see the real dog,
after the initial quiet start. He's relaxed and calm, in-between the bits
of madness. Trying hard to stamp his authority, quite a handful when he
doesn't want to do something.......like getting him out of the way at
dinner time. Got the lips curling up at me tonight (was this what you meant
by a bit cheeky) ..... stood on firmly, but not too firmly just yet.

He also found his voice this afternoon in one of his periods of madness
.... I think he shocked himself as much as everyone else!!

Vet trip planned for Monday to get his jab and microchip sorted out.

All things considered .......... much happier Buddy.
