What a naughty Boxer
Well thought I'd update you on the agility side of things. Gixer has been told by the vet to continue until he shows signs of heart problems. We have been struggling ot get Gixer focussed on what he should be doing - his idea is to run around the equestrian centre jump the odd jump but mainly eat what the horses have kindly left behind for him!!!! We were strating to get somewhere by ignoring him which he Hates. If he ran off I wouldn't call but walk away and he'd come back then he would go on the lead and not be spoken to. If he did it right he'd get loads of praise. This seemed to be working but a few weeks ago we had a different trainer who disagreed that the ignoring would work. He insisted I had to chase GIxer around and make him complete the course then play. I said I was rewarding his bad behaviour because he is doing it wrong on purpose but I got told it's because horse **** is more exciting than me and Gixer doesn't associate me with play!!. I felt like saying a Boxer is a bit different to border collies and if you get them excited they vompletely loose the plot. :vangry: The evening went from bad to worse and Gixer spent the night having a whale of a time running around and being chased by the trainer as I refused. I even called out "bye" and left the hall anf it took him a while to realise as he was having so much fun. I felt like not going back so #I called the club secretary and complained ad have since had an apology as I was quie upset. Two of the trainers have decided the class situation isn't helping Gixer as he wants to show off. I think he gets bored waiting for his turn too. SO I have been asked if I would be up for 1-1 agilithy training as they think there is an agility dog in there somewhere but we need to get him focussed. I have agreed to give it a go and if this desn't work then pack it in. The annoying hting is that when he does it he does it really well and I actually think that is the problem because it's not hard for him he gets bored and thinks "I can do that so I'll do it when I want to" (typical male!!!)
this will be my last go we have homework at the mo - am trying clicker trainig with him - the noise is constant and can't get him too excited. Wish us luck and soonwe'll be back at the club to show them what we can do :luck:

Sounds like Gizer is having sooo much fun, good luck with it all :luck:

Polo never used to want to do the obstacles in the set order :dunno:

I wish we had a place like that around here. I had one previously but Tyson was always very mellow and didn't care much for it. He thoroughly enjoyed Doggy Day Camp though!! Tucker would benefit from that with all of the energy he has!! Wish we had one. Good luck with Gixer. Sounds like a fun boy to have around

Oh dear! Naughty Gixer. It never fails to surprise me that some of these trainers just don't seem to get the hang of boxers!

They try and treat them like these perfect collies etc and they just don't work like that!

Hope the one to one works for you, I am sure Gixer will enjoy the attention!!:love:
