Agility
Well most of you know we have been going to agility for a while now and the only way to describe Gixer is "class clown"!!!

Since he's been diagnosed with ARVC he has actually improved - he still has his moments but a lot less of them.

When we found out he was ill I spoke to the club secrtary and said we wanted to carry on for as long as Gix could manage but stay in the nursery class if that was OK so he didn't put too much stress on his heart. She said there would always be aplace for him.

Well last night she asked if she could have a word. SHe said a new puppy class was starting in a few weeks and she "didn't know what Gixer would be like with the puppies" - I'm really not sure what that was supposed to mean. She then went on to say there was nowhere for her to put him as he would hold up all the classes as they have moved on. I reminded her of our agreement a few months ago and she replied that the instructors wiould be concentrating on the pups and Gix would disrupt them.

I then said that I had just paid my annual subs and this month's fees adn she said I could go this month then.

I was really cross and quite upset actually as it seems really 2 faced - apparently she really loves him ! then said perhaps I should work on his obediance - I reminded her it is fine until he gets there.

I then got told I could still come and see them and bring Gixer along - I'm still thinking that wouldn't be fair on him.

Anyway rant over now I will have to see if ther is a Boxer friendly agility group somewhere or try him with something else - the exercise is good for him and we are supposed to be letting him "live his life to the full" stopping will make him bored and finish him off quicker - any suggestions????

Re: Agility
That does seem a bit "off" on the part of the class organisers.
Good luck finding a suitable way forward.

Re: Agility
That does seem unfair. I sometimes think that the instructors at the obedience class I take Gary to do not particularly like boxers as they have personalities and can really show if they are bored but I wouldn't swap them for the world!! We will still keep going to annoy them!! - seriously though he is improving. Hope you manage to find a boxer friendly club, they do enjoy their "night out" and it would be shame if he had to stop. Good luck and I hope Gixer continues for a long time to come.

Re: Agility
I would try him in the next class up, just to see how he does, what have you got to lose?

Not nice to have the clubback turning like that, I would be anoyed too but I would try him and see how he gets on and it would "call their bluff".

Re: Agility
The trouble is the bloke taking the next class really pushes him too much and now with his heart condition I really worry. I'm not sure yet I still am in 2 minds.

Re: Agility
Great idea Helen. Sounds like the company I work for, they will give you a wee bit of training, then push you in the deep end! Sink or swim it maketh the man(or woman or dog.). Well worth a try. We have all faith in Gixer taking it in his stride, and, you will be onhand to make sure he gets a fair go.
Sounds like "the bloke" realises Gixer's potential too.

Re: Agility
Could be worth having a word with the new trainer, explain Gixer's condition, tell him you'd love to continue as he enjoys it so much, but at a slower pace. Good luck :luck:

Re: Agility
We had our last week of agility last week and ended on a high. I finally got the truth out of one of the committee - they are worried he will start fainting etc there - a few weeks ago he ahd a funny moment and his tongue went lilac and a vet nurse told me to stop him then a couple of weeks later I got the news they felt he should stop. I wish they'd tild me the truth from the start it would've been easier for me to take.
