Cone after spaying?
Hi, Bobbi has been spayed today and when i picked her up she had a cone on, which the vet said she had to wear for 10 days!! At that stage i thought 'some chance'. When she got home she was really bothered by it and kept crying. I took it off and she immediately calmed down adn went to sleep. I am now wondering what to do. She will have to be left as usual tomorrow for a couple of hours and i am worried that if i leave it off she wil attack her stiches at the first opportunity. Any ideas will be gratefully received.
Cheers
Jason.

Re: Cone after spaying?
If ou have to leave her and cant get someone to sit with her while you are gone or you cant take her with you then I would put it back on for her own safety. When I had our bitches done I took the time off work to be there 24 x 7, however I realise that not everyone can do that. When you are home with her again and able to watch her, you can take it off.

Re: Cone after spaying?
My Chloe never bothered her stitches, but I figured her spay, for when I was on vacation and could be home with her.
I think that if someone can't be with her,it would be safest to leave it on her.Even though she won't be happy,it will be MUCH safer.

My two had their cones off while I was around, but they had them on if I went out or was in bed

Cheers for the advice, we managed to get soemone to be with her, and no she won't be left. She has yet to notice the stiches and doesn't seem fazed at all. Now a new problem!!! How can i stop her jumping about? :wowsmilie: She seems to think that she is already back to normal!!! Nightmare:veryexcited:

Re: Cone after spaying?
The bloods not normal, sounds as if shes been nibbling at her stitches and some blood has leaked out. If there is anymore blood or wound looks red / swollen or "tight" I would give her vet a call. If you do take her back to your vet put her collar back on and you can pretend "innocence" - as if you never took it off!

Re: Cone after spaying?
OMG:eek: At 0330 thgis morning we were woken by Bobbi in a coughing fit. I went downstairs to find blood everywhere and part of her gut hanging through the sticthed area. I took her to the emergency vets in town (luckily only 10 minutes away) who operated on her. I have just picked her up (450 quid lighter:eek::eek:, hope the insurance covers it!!!!) Aparently she had a reaction to the stiches and they started disolving, and when she coughed she opened the wound. She had not been picking at them at all. She has now had further surgery and other types of stiches have been used. I have sorted the problem of someone being with her throughout the day, because when i picked he up to put her in the car this moring, i aggravated my slipped disc and i am now going to be off work for a couple of weeks!!
