My last girl was really aggressive towards other dogs, especially when the kids were with us - I didnt know anything about pack stuff then, although she seemed fairly chilled elsewhere? Sasha gets grumpy with other dogs if she gets near them when she is on the lead and I use a harness with her. Luckily when she is off the lead, she does tend to ignore dogs, although saying that, while she was really bad recently she was getting grumpy with others. I think that was down to the fact that her pack order was out of sync? Try making sure Heskey knows you can look after yourself? Saw a prog recently where the woman had to pretend to eat from the dogs dinner bowl etc so he knew she was above him in the pecking order? Have you ever tried the noise distraction technique (stones in bottle, whistle etc?) Perhaps when he lunges towards these dogs, you could shake a bottle and distract him, so he knows its not acceptable behaviour. Of course this is from the woman who has a gibbering drooling wreck of a neurotic boxer just now - perhaps we could get them both together and they could even each other out!!!! |

Molly starts on 98% of other dogs whereas Tash who used to be great now waits, and if the other dog trys anything remotely aggressive - bang they get it!! But I once read a boxer will retaliate if provoked and not back down - what a wonderful trait to have, NOT. If you find an answer please let me know as then I can wak my 2 when it's light rather than pitch black, raining, windy and generally unpleasent. I have resorted to making molly sit facing away from any on-coming dogs and just saying "wait" once the other dog has passed we move on - she's a little better but not much, off the lead I dread to think. Good luck Paul |

Tried and tested and works - both for male and female. My last male boy was the worst you could get. He never discriminated whether it was male, female, youngster. oldster, he would get them all. In fact his arch enemy a [horrible] Elkhound who was never on a lead and was a real so + so came racing at him one day. My lad was on his lead, Keo came out of nowhere. My lad stood calm - we were out in the open with nowhere for me to flee - Keo zoomed right in and it all happened so fast. Within seconds my lad had him flipped over onto his back and "held" down all while on his lead. Anyway back to a helpful hint - Evening primrose oil. Start em off on 1 x 500mg capsule a day for a week, 2nd week 2 x 500mg for week, 3rd week 3 x 500mg for week and 4th week 4 x 400mg capsules per week or you could buy the 1000mg size once you get them onto two 500mg per week. Keep your lads and lassies on it for 3 months and then you can try to start dropping the dose down but do it very gradually. They may need the large dose or one a day may suit them but its not a cure - it will only be effective whilst it is being given - for life I am afraid. It helped our lad a lot although to be truthful he was never trustworthy off his lead. He was attacked by an aggressive GSD as a 6mth old and shook like a rag doll. So it was started off with fear aggression - case of "I'll get them before they get me". Then he just continued on with it and seemed to get much pleasure in letting other dogs come up to him and flip them over and hold them down. Never a mark on the other dog but by golly they didnt tackle him again. Its a Boxer tactic being able to flip an opponent over, hold it down and not mark it. Oh and no I am not a salesperson for EPO [evening primrose oil] just someone who has tried, tested and had success with it. Helen |

My behavourlist recommended Bach flower remedies for each particular problem Sasha had, and she has had a lot of reports back that they help. I think you can look them up on the internet (I havent had access to a proper computer for a while now so I havent looked yet). Perhaps there is one for chilling an aggressive dog? |
