Poor Chloe
Chloe had to have her vaccinations yesterday.Thankfully,I have 2 weekdays together as my days off.She got her dhpp, they leave the lepto out,as she had an allergic reaction in the past. She also got her rabies, vacc. This was about 10;00 in the morning.
About 9;45pm,I realized she was swelling up,and getting hives! Called the vet at home, give her 3 benadyl, and cold compresses.I freaked out, cause that's a LONG time, between the shots and an allergic reaction. Now,my vet doesn't think it was the vacc.As it WAS so long, between the shots and the reaction.
Before,the reaction was immediate.
So,now I'm thinking,did she get bitten by a spider,or something?????
She DID have a very bad reaction in the past,to lepto, but they left it out last time, and this time.Last time, she was fine.
Is it a possiblity she will react to ALL shots????She also got hives once, from eating a tiny amount of a pedigree pouch of dogfood. Will NEVER give that again.
What is your experiences with your babies???
I had to give her more benadryl this am.She's MUCH better, but still abit puffy.
Any advise or anyone elses experinces with this,I would be most grateful to hear about.
My poor baby.
At least, she felt like eating and took her morning vitamin and joint stuff,as usual. So,she's better. But I want this swelling to be GONE!!!!

Re: Poor Chloe
Can't offer any advice I.m afraid Sandy as neither of mine have reacted badly to any medication / food. Both have been bitten by bees / wasps.

Molly seems almost immune to bee / wasp stings but Tash does have a reaction to them in the form of lethargy and shaking / trembling. We did rush her to the vets the first time but they advised she was OK and just keep a very close eye on her.

Hopefully somebody who has experienced similair will be along shortly with some advice. Hope Chloe gets better soon you must be very worried. Has the benadryl eased it at all???

Take care

Paul

Re: Poor Chloe
The only allergic reaction Sasha has had was to a flea treatment (the one they put on the back of the neck). She didn't go puffy but her skin got extremely red and she was very itchy.

The only other one on here I can remember getting bad hives for an unexplained reason was Polo? Am I right there Linda?

Hope she is ok now

You are right Karen, he came out in quite large lumps - he looked like he'd been sat on a chair with holes in & the impression had been left on his skin, it was weird, we couldn't pinpoint what had caused it though.

Hope Chloe's feeling better now.

Re: Poor Chloe
Chloe is feeling great now!!!
She's all recovered from the hives and swelling.Vet says we can give her meds BEFORE the vacc next time,to help prevent any problems.
I was also advised on another group,to check the brand of vacc given. Some dogs react to some brands, but not to others.
Chloe says thaks for thinking of her!!!
She was running around playing and eating well, today. All forgotten.UNTIL the next time I take her to the vet's office.Wonder if she'll remember then?
She did this year.Gets scared to go in.Does NOT like that place at all.
I usually save time and carry her in.It's kinda funny,the reactions I get when I do this.Chloe weighs 75 lbs,and I weigh 124.
So,I do get some looks!
But,I'm just trying to get her in there abit more calmly, than dragging her.I don't like that.Don't want to make her frightened of it anymore than she already is.
I mean,I wouldn't like going somewhere that makes me sick, either.
But,anyway-she's fine now.

Re: Poor Chloe
Ah bless her! Rosie would come up quite often in the "hives". We never really know what causes them, just treat them when it happens. There could have been something "at" the vets she was allergic to rather than her injections. As was once said to me - if the dog had long hair, you wouldnt even know she had hives and its true. Just because our babies have such short coats, we can see the dratted things!

Glad she is okay again.
