What made you decide on a boxer?

I was thinking about why I love boxers so much and what made me interested in them in the first place.

What was the first thing that attracted all of you to them?

Apart from the obvious which we all know about now - what was the first thing that made you want a boxer over any other dog?

When i was younger my mum used to have Jack Russels and although i loved them as our pets i used to hate the way that you couldn't give them a cuddle without either their long pointy nose digging in or their short stubby legs.

A family down the road to us used to have a boxer (this was when i was around ten years old) and it used to lay in the sun in their front garden and just looked so cuddly!!!
No pointy nose to give you bruises. Also I used to watch the way it played with their children and although it was a much bigger dog than we had - you could see it was so gentle , even when they were rolling around on the floor fighting with it.

From then on I have always said when i grow up I am going to have a boxer - and now look - We have three of them.

My dream finally came true four years ago when we got Tia and Kirei, and since then I have said to my hubby that he made a big mistake as he will never be able to get me a better present than Tia and Kirei!!!!!!!!!

What made you decide and why ?????

Caroline, Tia, Kirei and not so little Henry xxxx

Re: What made you decide on a boxer?

When our old dog (a mongrel) died we were almost a year before we decided we were ready for another dog. Once we decided we thought we would like a rescue dog. Weekend after weekend we spent trailing round all the local, and not so local, rescue centres, to no avail. Most dogs we saw didn't like children, cats, other dogs or even humans and we were at our wit's end
Then my hubby picked the winner of the Grand National and won a few hundred pounds, the girls both said they'd had enough looking at pitiful eyes begging us to take them home and we should use the money to buy a puppy.
We bought some local paper and amongst the ads was one for some boxer puppies. Our eldest daughter had already said she would love a boxer so hubby phoned. He spoke to Angela (the breeder) who explained the only pup left was a white, we spoke to our eldest, who was babysitting at the time, who said she would prefer a white as it would be a bit different, so we arranged to visit the next day.
When we went the next day there were actually two whites to choose from, Angela wanted to keep one to be company for a pup a couple of weeks younger who had a few health problems. We were all so nervous, we knew it was more a case of Angela liking us as pospective owners and when we decided on Polo (she approved of his name) and were told we could take him home we were absolutely over the moon :roundnround:
That's our story and Polo is the best buy we've ever made - betting does have a positive side after all

Re: What made you decide on a boxer?

My ex landlord had boxers and they slobbered all over the place, they were very overweight and not so nice temperments so a boxer would not have been my choice, my oh`s friend of a friend had Clyde and Joe just said to him if you are ever looking to rehome Clyde he will take him in a ,
Couple of weeks later Clyde was given to us in not a very nice state(thats why Joe wanted him), I certainly was`nt impressed when I seen Clyde but within an hour I had totally fell in love with him, if Clyde was any more laid back he`d be in a coma lol, then of course we had to get Clyde a pal along came Bonnie........................Rocky

I love Boxers because they are so loving, loyal, expressive, and naughty at times, I think they are hilarious.

Re: What made you decide on a boxer?

I had a golden lab from my late teens at home, and when I left home to start my own life etc, I always said I wanted a dog. When my then hubby and I talked about it, I always said that the best dog to have would be a lab as they were so good with kids, he argued the case for a boxer. I listened to him, but silently vowed that it would be a lab and nothing else.

Just before we were married his sister came to stay with their boxer Katie - she was a lunatic and did my head in as she was so badly behaved! She spent the whole time with her face in mine - and that was when I was standing up! She was my first introduction to boxers and it didnt go to well to say the least!! My ex already knew the reason for Katies visit, and that was to try and convince me to take her in when his sister moved to Saudi. To say I was a little hesitant is an understatement, but I finally agreed and we collected her a couple months later from her home.

End of story!

Once I got to know her and she learnt how to behave around people who cared for her, there was no going back!!! I was a convert and now know that there is absolutely no other breed worth having other than a boxer!!

When Katie died 7 years ago, I always knew I would have another dog, but I never questioned the breed I would have!

I love them because they are loyal, funny, expresionate, inquisitive and just so full of life!

Re: What made you decide on a boxer?

Years and years ago [too many] I had not long lost the last of my retired show dogs. I had convinced myself that I would not get another dog. Couldnt stand the agony of losing another one. I was still at home at that stage. Few weeks later mum stated that she wanted another dog - she felt lonely in the house without one. She didnt want another small dog but either a Boxer or Labrador. Both breeds she and dad had had before. I was stubborn and didnt want either! However I agreed that I would look in the paper and if there was either breed we could go and look. I glanced half heartedly and didnt see any !!!!! Mum picked the paper up and found an advert for Boxer pups. Rang up, only one bitch pup left - set off on the long journey, had her name picked on the way, she was older pup at 4 1/2 months [later we found out he had had to keep her as she had had parvo] - by time we got there if she had had three legs, two heads etc, she would still have come home with us.

Within a few days I was completely captivated by this pup. 10 months later we had two more. There is nothing like a Boxer.

A house with a Boxer is alive, you cant ignore them, they have to be involved in everything, they are your friend, Confidante, loyal, kind, intelligent, intuitive, they keep you amused, they are just wonderful!!:wowsmilie:

Re: What made you decide on a boxer?

My Mum and Dad had a Boxer before me, we grew up together. She was my best friend and slept in my room. We always had one.
When I took my place in the grown up world again I had a boxer my children have grown up with them too. When I met my other half he had a x collie. When he went I had to convince him to get a boxer. We have had three since then and I'm sure he wouldn't have any other kind of "mut" either.

Re: What made you decide on a boxer?

We always had Alsatians - one of them was really scary, or at least to a small child anyway. So you would think Alsatians would have been my chosen breed - not on your nelly, a friend from work had a boxer called Tyson who weighed approx 7 stone and no he was no big fat lump he was, very tall, very powerful, head the size of a water mellon and as soft as muck.

We used to go on walks with tyson and would stop off at the pub for an hour or two (I was single then - those days are gone) and tyson would scare off any undesirables with a cursery glance. Well that was me hooked, how anyone could be afraid of him I don't know he was a brilliant dog but also a deterant to any potential intruders which suited Terry my friend.

I suppose initially it was the look and playful nature that attracted me but when we got Molly I could not believe what an amazing breed they are, as you have already mentioned they are

Playful, Loving, Intelligent, Soft, Cuddly, Powerful, A Joker,Protective of their family members, Playful and tolerant of toddlers / children, a joy to watch playing with each other, A joy to watch running and the list goes on and on. Most importantly they make a home complete they are always happy to see you and always know if you ae down and come and give you lots of boxer loving!!!!!

It's not so much you own them - more the other way around.

Too say we are hooked would be an understatement - I can honestly say that the only breed I would even consider sharing my home with given a choice would be boxers, not just one at least two. Lets face it if you have two it's twice the fun and double the loving!!!!

Fate. It was the breeders first litter, they did not know what to do with the white one. So I took him.
My life is complete.
