Hi all
Well I thought I was going to be able to let you all know that Duke and Carrigan had managed to go two whole months without a proper fight, they've been getting on so well that they were even managing to play like boxers do, you know the 'my mouths bigger than yours' games they seem so fond of, (well Xena, Duke and more lately Carrigan seem to be anyway), but yesterday Duke and Carrigan had a 'proper' fight again, not sure exactly what started it, all three were on the sofa and without any warning Duke and Carrigan jumped off the sofa and started ripping into each other. Both ended up bleeding, although nothing as bad as before Duke was castrated. Took about four hours before we felt they were settled enough to be back together and then it seemed to be Duke who was more wary of Carrigan, thats a first to, in the past it's always been the other way round! After giving it some thought we think that Xena maybe coming into season, which could be the reason for the fight, having said that Duke and Carrigan have spent today sleeping on the same sofa side of head resting against side of head. Anyway we are now planing to get Xena spayed as soon as we can. Personally I'm pleased that we didn't give up on Carrigan, (we very nearly did a couple of times and it took some persuasion by me to keep working with him, specially after I'd got bitten), we've still got some way to go but I feel we're getting somewhere now and think that we are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Thats great Rob/Elaine that things are looking up. Im sure things will settle down once Xena is spayed. Must be awful to see two of them fighting. Are both of the boys entire [not neutered]?
Keep up the good work. Helen

Both Duke and Carrigan are neutered but Duke was only done about three months ago, thats when things started to calm down between them, but I guess even though they can't really do anything the instinct and, er, urge is still there! lol

Bromide for the lot of them!
Seriously though, it must be horrible when they set on each other like that - lets hope getting Xena spayed will help. Good luck and let us know how she gets on! |

They have done well Rob / Elaine, as you point out it could quite simply be that Xena is coming into season. I'm sure that it will all be worth while, after all you have come this far and I am sure that things will improve once Xena is spayed.
Molly is "top dog" in our house but occasionally when she is being a little too aggressive with Tash, Tash will tell her off and Molly goes all sheepish - most dogs test each other and generally accept the heierachy but occassionally will say enough is enough. It can't be nice to see Duke and Carrigan having a full blown fight, but at least you are their to sort them out and manage the situiation. Tash had a run in with a large cross breed down the park the other day and was pouring blood from one ear - it didn't seem to bother her though, the owner of the cross breed had the cheek to have a go because Tash had retaliated to say the least, which in fairness I couldn't see a problem with - his dog made the first move and was considerably larger than Tash. He should thank his lucky stars Molly was on a lead otherwise he really would have had something to complain about! I did explain that if he knew his dog was aggressive why not put on the lead when he saw us as I did with Molly? He had no answer to that one and we went our seperate ways after I had checked his dog was OK - do you think he aske how Tash was? No!! Gpood luck with your brood Roab and Elaine it sounds like generally things have improved significantly, which is brilliant news. How are you and the rest of the family? Hope you are all well and that work / life is treating you well. Take care Paul |
