Poppy's going in to be speyed on Thursday

As the header says, she is goin in on Thursday:crying: I am so nervous about it I wake up feeling sick every day but I want it to be done and I know it has to be.

We've to drop her off between half 8 and 9 so hubby is taking her then going in to work. The letter say to be contactable by telephone on the morning of the operation , why is that? It says we can phone between 2 and 3 pm to enquire about her condition.

I've got a list of optional extras we might like them to do whilst she is under like microchipping and cleaning teeth and ears etc. and you have to sign it. I've written in big letters at the top and the bottom "PLEASE NO ACP/ACE" do you think that's enough. I'm going to highlight it too. I think this is what's worrying me the most.

It also says they can provide a special convalescent food for post surgery or to feed scrambled egg of fish. What would you suggest. I was going to get in some goats milk to do her egg with but she's never really had anything other than JWB for months so I don't want to upset her tummy while she's feeling ill already. Also do they give then anything for pain relief? You'd think there would be some pain for a few days after this?

Sorry for all the questions. Can you tell I'm worried?

Aww bless Louise

She will be fine, don't worry! She is so young, I bet you wont even see a difference in her! Tizzy was up and about the next day neither up nor down!

Scrambled eggs is a nice one for their tea, but wait until she seems hungry to be honest. She might not want to eat until at least 10pm or so.

Keep her wrapped up warm - I put towels in the tumble dryer to warm them up for her.

Keep her on the floor - don't let her jump up on the sofa!! It will hurt her - for a few days after too!!

They will give her pain relief before she comes round and then you will have some to give her that night and then maybe twice a day? They have to be given with food though - so hence the scrambled egg.

Try not to worry, although I know exactly where you are coming from

im sure poppy will be fine, its pretty normal for us to worry about our babies though!!

when i took my mums dog in to the vets to get done they asked for a contact number as well and they phoned at about 11am to say that they had a few emergencies operations in and wouldnt be "doing" her until the afternoon but they phoned my mum because they knew she would worry.

keashas gettting done around november time, so keep me posted with her recovery etc...

She will be fine. Its just normal procedure asking for contact number, same if you were going into hospital for op, they would ask for one and next of kin. I'll be the same when Harvey goes in to be neutered. We all worry!
Will be thinking of her and you.

Well she's there now. My husband left with her at half 8. I feel so guilty. They told him if he doesn't hear from them by lunch time he can phone them so she might be having it done now. I'll be so glad when its all over.

You can normally phone by about 1pm. If she gets done in the early "batch" then you might be able to pick her up earlier, but if she is later then you might not get her til after tea.

:bighug: for you :bighug:

He went in on his lunch break to see how she was and they said she was fine and was having a sleep. He's picking her up just after 4 .

Re: Poppy's going in to be speyed on Thursday

She's not great to be honest. She was completely out of it last night and just lay and slept. I couldn't get her to eat or drink anything and she seemed to be wincing when she swallowed. I'm assuming she's got a sore throat from the pipe thing?

This morning she's a bit more with it but is just lying in bed. Poor thing is wagging her little tail when I go to see her. She still hadn't had a drink so I gave her some of my tea (knew she couldn't resist this) she drank a little bowl full so I feel better she's at least had that.

Saying that its not even been 24 hours yet so maybe I'm expecting too much. Last night when we put the buster collar on she wasn't happy at all. I put the light out and sat in the living room for 15 minutes, all was quiet so I went in to check she was asleep and she was still stood in the same position I'd left her with her head down! I've been up al night worrying about her. I'll feel better when she's eaten something and I'm sure she'll pick up when she does.

Thank you for thinking about her.

Awww poor Poppy :bighug: Honestly, she will be more herself by the end of today.

I only put the collar on Tizzy at bed time to be honest. As long as you are with her and can watch her, then she should be ok.

Tizzy never touched her stitches ever - its about the only thing she has been good on!!

Give her a big :bighug: from my girlies

Re: Poppy's going in to be speyed on Thursday

Well I'm back from taking the kids to school and she's picked up quite a bit. She's up and about and has had some scrambled egg. I don't know how good it is for them but I made her up some weak tea (she loves it)and she's had that and a huge pee on the kitchen floor. She just stood how she was, didn't crouch down or anything. She's sniffing about looking for food like she always does so she must be feeling better.

On the plus side I'm getting lots of cuddles so she must have forgiven me.

The problem now is how to keep her from jumping up for 10 days. She gets the stitches out a week on Monday.

Great news, I was so worried when you did not come on-line last night. You left us all on tender hooks. I'm sure poppy will be back to normal in no time.

Hi im so glad ppy id feeling better. It is so much different for the females than the males. When Peetie went in to be neutered I was a wreck!! When he came home i was trying to cuddle with him and have him rest but you wouldn;t even know he had anything done!!! He was a little woozy but when I got him home it he was back to normal right away! The vet didnt give Peetie one of those head contraptions (lol) He said it's not necessary.

How is it going trying to keep Poppy calm?:nonono:

I always laugh at the vet when he tries to tell us to keep one of ours calm - do they know what it is like having three boxers at home?:muhaha:

Keeping her calm is not easy! She keeps going on the sofa too (its quite low) which I know she shouldn't be doing but I figured its better to leave her to sleep on it thatn to keep bringing her off only for her to jump back on:doh:

I have been leaving the buster collar off except for bedtime but today every chance she got she was licking the stitches so she's had it on all day. I have been letting her put in the garden too just long enough to go to the toilet then straight back in and I find with the buster collar on she doesn't run about so much. Roll on next Monday so I can relax a bit:rollingeyes:
