Friend or Foe

Is it just me or do boxers seem to take to certain people really well and sometimes just do not like certain other people.

Not only that but does it seem that they remember certain people as well.

My brother visited the other day and Molly had not seen him for about 8 months but did not bark aggressively just did the woooh wooooh greeting which is usually reserved for frequent visitors. Not only that but Tash made a real fuss of him trying to lick his face etc which is very unusual as Tash normally just does her impression of a propellor with her tail and then lies down.

Even though Molly was happy to see him she still growled when he went near the baby and made sure she was stood between them - not a nasty growl but just enough to say I've got my eye on you type of growl. Bless shes so protective of the females in our family as next doors dog found out when it barked at mair, whoops big mistake.

As for not liking people Molly has a dislike for my dad which is highly amusing - obviously a good judge of Character!!:roundnround:

Bella`s the same, she can meet someone for the first time and love the instantly, but another person she`ll just stand between us and do the very low growl thing (thats when I usually say my goodbye`s and go) :bolt:
because i know if they make one false move they`ve had it.

Don`t you just love them, what goes on in a boxer head.

Re: Friend or Foe

My last girl was always very wary of men but would welcome any woman as if she had known them all her life.

Sasha just treats everyone the same - with an over enthusiastic greeting, a quick wooooh wooooh, plenty of love attention and licks and then goes back to bed.

The the only thing that differs is the length of time she spends greeting someone - it will all depend on the length of time she has known them and what they do for her (walk, feed etc!!)

She hasn't met anyone she doesn't like - yet!

I like your style Jacquie and to be honest if I was faced with 6 stone of boxer that i did not know I can honestly say that I would think several times before messing with you!!

Aren't our babies clever, so perceptive when it comes to strangers and rarely wrong in their judgement.

Ours are the same with most men as well Karen it's amazing that the breed has retained many of it's origional traits given that they are now house dogs and no longer used for hunting (I hope anyway)! Some breeds such as the English bulldog have changed so much from how they were a 100 years ago physically and mentally due to human vanity rather than the good of the breed that it is reasuring that the boxer is still very similair to it's origional parentage / purpose.
