The woes of Tucker & Tyson

:hello:

We've been very busy and I am just now getting caught up on all the posts I've missed out on.

Tyson went to the vet last week for his annual check-up. The asked all sorts of questions they had never before asked but all in all it was a good visit.

Tyson has gained a little weight
I blame it on Tucker. Although Tucker keeps him active, he keeps him eating more too. Tyson was always VERY picky and didn't like a lot of normal dog treats. Tucker, however, loves them. Tyson now eats anything Tucker eats for fear of missing out.

Tyson's 9th birthday is coming up on 4/15! For a nine year old he is healthy, has good lungs, good heart but does have slight cataracts. Hearing all of that are great. He is starting to have the "gum" problem that supposedly a lot of boxers have. Anyone heard of that before? Where the gums grow over and have to be lasered off? My previous vet in Tennessee talked with me about it last year and said we needed to start watching. This vet in Indiana says it's time. That means he would be put under for the procedure which makes me nervous? Anyone have experience with this? It seems like we should because letting the gums continue to grow could result in growth over the teeth and could be painful for him. The last thing I ever want is him to be in pain!! Any advice? It's not quite there yet but it has increased since last visit.

Tucker is doing, well, ok. He is still my Tucker. He chewed up a prized golf club of my husband's. I believe it was out of shear boredom. The clubs have been in the same place for the past 6 1/2 months and Tucker decides last week to chew it up. He loves to go out to just play whereas Tyson only wants to go out to potty and come back in. We've had nasty weather and so I wouldn't just let Tucker run in and out like normal because of the mud and the cold. He thanked me by grabbing things off the bottom of our baker's rack. Very much like a child, if he doesn't get his way he punishes me.:dunno:

He still thinks Tyson hung the moon and hangs on his every move. When Tyson does something Tucker has to do it also. Tucker likes to potty right beside Tyson. Which is usually ok but Tyson still squats a lot. Tucker went to potty next to him and raised his leg.... and pottied on Tyson. What's a girl to do except laugh? It was too late so that's all I could do!:dogwalking:

Tucker is getting neutured next week. I have read that white boxers should not be bred. I don't know if there is truth to that or not but have never been interested in breeding mine. Even if I were, our vet strongly suggested he get neutured do to his episode with the genetic manage when he was 4 months old. So he is going next week. They are not going to keep him over night which is good because I would be sad if he had to stay there after his procedure. They are going to let him come home and be with his family. Tyson was neutured when he was about 2 after experiencing an infection in that area and had to have emergency neutering surgery. He felt 100x better afterwards because of the complications. I hope Tucker does well. Keep him in your thoughts & prayers!!

That's my boxer update for the last few weeks

xoxo,

Sasha has had epulis removed before and will probably have to have some more taken off soon. It's fairly common in boxers.

You'll just have to give him soft food for a while afterwards but it will improve his quality of life. :flowerkiss:

It's good to get him neutered while he is still quite young, he will recover quicker

Re: The woes of Tucker & Tyson

Tyson is going in next month for his gum surgery. I'm still quite nervous, mostly about him being put to sleep. But he will love all of the attention. They played outdoors almost all day yesterday while my husband did house work. Somehow Tyson got a small little cut on his paw so as soon as he came in I doctored it and made a fuss about it. The rest of the night he favored that paw and loved the extra attention. (Of course it was like a little paper cut). He is so silly.

Tucker is doing ok after the surgery. He did just find during and you'd never know that anything had ever happened but now he has a bit of swelling around the stitches. I'm applying peroxide and cold compresses which is helping. It hasn't phased him one single bit, but he dones't like the compress!
