Hi all,
Its been ages since i've really been on here (silly work!) and thought I would have a little bit of a vent! Snoop is now 14 months old and we dont seem to be getting anywhere! In the last 6 months I've had to leave 3 different training classes, the first i chose to leave as the trainer was completley agaisnt boxers and wouldnt actually give me any help with Snoop and the second it was 'reconmended' that i try another group. And the latest a dog went for Snoop and he was a nervous wreck when we next went back. The only problem with that was that there are only 3 groups within a 25 mile radius of me!!! We are still suffering with Snoops house training, he actually peed on the bed the other night while I was in it. He is still barking all the time when we go out and now our nieghbours are complaining. I Still can't 'go off the lead' when I take him for a walk as it is impossible to get him back. He was fine with walks until he had his allergies and I couldnt let him off for 2 months, I think he has forgotten everything. And finally he has got more hyper around children, which has been a major concern of mine as I often look after friends children. And that lot is not including the chewing, humping, hole digging, food stealing, begging.....argh! I am really at the end of my rope now and we nearly gave him up a month ago. No matter how many people I spoke to I couldnt seem to get him to learn anything. Finally after a tearful visit to the vets I have been given a whole new reguime for him. 1) we have changed his food yet again. We are now on Royal Canin Boxer 26. He has only been on it a week but he has calmed down soooo much! (not to mention he is already bulking out and doesnt look like a walking skelton now!) 2) I finally gave him and got a crate for him, I was really anxious about this as I dont like the idea of putting him away, however the day we got it, within an hour he was curled up asleep in it! I then had my daugher and 3 of her firends over (max age 3), after a while i decided to put him in the cage, he just went to sleep and ignored them. I have been trying going out for short times, max about 20 mins at the moment and he seems a lot less wound up when we get back. Not to mention my shoes are now safe! 3) I have now booked a company called 'bark busters' to come in in a couple of weeks. They have come highly reconmended by several boxer owners in the area and my vet. I am paying £340 for a life time service. They will come in and train us (how to deal with him and do training at home) and Snoop, they will keep comeing back until our issues are sorted, and if in a few years something else comes up they will return free of charge!!! We are doing everything we can in order to not give up on him, Snoop is our life and we love him more than anything. But I have learnt not to buy a 4/5 month old dog that has no training!!!! Anyway rant over, I'll let you know how we get on with 'bark busters!' xx

Awww sounds like you have had it tough
![]() 14 months is still really young though, im sure he will get there in the end. Keasha is 2 and a half now and she pee'd on the beds as recently as 8 months ago, glad she grew out of that one. I also found that if I varied the length of time i left the house from 5 minutes to 2 hours she was a lot calmer, because she could never work out how long i would be. Good luck with bark busters ![]() shona x

It's amazing what a change of food can do a dog, or person for that matter.

As a matter of interest what were you feeding him? Some dogs are just hyper and he may have been the same if you had got him at 8 weeks old. Rosie, as a puppy was very hyper. Generally speaking some Boxers do a lot better on a low protein food, no more than 18-20% protein. Im glad you have found a food to suit.
Also glad to hear he has taken to his crate so well. It gives them a real sense of security and somewhere to go - their own wee den so to speak. Good luck with BarkBusters. Do let us know how you get on. Helen

Hi,
We were feeding him on Tesco own dry mix and Superchunks meat with a half mix of pet plan. This seemed to be the only stuff that didnt make him poorly! But the royal Canin seems to be working really well. He had a big test today, being left alone for 4 1/2 hours, I was so worried about him being put away for that time, but when I got back he didnt even wake up! Such a difference!!!

Hi,
Well the trainer came yesterday and was fantastic! By the time she left Snoop has stopped running to the door and jumping up at everyone, he now comes in from the garden when he is called and is a lot less bouncy! We have to keep up all aspects of his training (and there is a lot!) for about 20 mins a day and they will come back when we need them. I am soooooo impressed, our friends came over last night and couldnt believe the change afteri just one session! The main adivce we were given was to 'go raw' with his food, I was shocked and disgusted after I learnt what was in his food. So watch this space and we'll see how he copes on bones and mince!

Hi I'm gladthings are getting better with Snoop. He seemed such a lovely boy - and I'm pleaseed you are not giving up with him. I only saw signs of Gixer "growing up" when he was about 18mths-2 and even now at 4 he can surprise us from time to time. If you stick at it he will be worth it, Boxers are excitable but once the bouncing is now and again they are such a fun lovely dog to have around although you might want to strangle them from time to time. We went through loads with GIx and I wouldn't change him for the world. Let me know when you're ready to meet up again- weekends are best for me.....
Georgie and Gixer xx

Hi,
Not been able to change to raw at the moment as some personal things came up and have not been able to order any or pop up the butchers, however we are going this weekend to pick up some bits and then will gradually change his diet. Things are going great with this routine, I still cant let him off the lead however he actually walks to heel most of the time now. He managed to escape out the back gate at the weekend, and normally this would mean 30 mins of trying to get him back, but this time we just called him once and he came running back. I'm very happy and finally have a family dog that is a pleasure to have! Will let you know about the raw! xx
