Tear stains

This isn't really a big problem, I have an eight month male. He has droopy eyes which are becoming badly stained. Does anyone know of anything that is safe to use to get rid of the staining.

Re: Tear stains

Hi Jacquie,
Are you in UK or US? I'm in UK and found a good product in our local Pets at Home, I think it's called Pretty Eyes, it's a blue solution - but I can't just find it at the moment! There were 2 or 3 products there when we looked so there must be a few available - hope you find something.

Re: Tear stains

A great cure for tear stains is a product called Kleen Face, made by a company called 'Dogs Stuff'. they have a website, i think its www.dogsstuff.co.uk! they are based in surrey, but they do mail order so they can send you some! its a natural product that you can even drop into your dogs eye to help keep the tear ducts clear! have used it on my white boxer and on my white cats and it did the trick!

Re: Tear stains

Thought you would like to know my vet said Pretty eyes is bad for dogs as it is full of chemicals. I placed an order with the web site recommended twice and still have no product. I even e mailed them but no answer. Does anyone know if they are still tradeing?? I'm a bit worried as I gave them my credit card details. The last two statments have showen nothings been taken off.

Re: Tear stains

do you mean the dog's stuff website? if you do, the pet shop where dog's stuff is based is called pets place, the dog's stuff telephone number is 0208 337 0080. try calling and asking about your order. i worked in the shop for nearly a year and they may just be waiting for an order of kleen face to come in! it is very popular, they do take telephone orders and will take your card number over the phone if you are happier about giving it that way, most people do.
hope this helps and you get rid of those tear stains!

Re: Tear stains

I phoned them and the kleen face arrived yesterday! Good service I thought.
I will let you know how I get on with it. It doesn't stink of chemicals and it's safe even if it goes into Blue's eyes. He doesn't seem to mind it. Will keep you posted on how it works. It says it takes about two weeks to work but I do Blue's eyes three times a day so I dont know if it will be quicker. I'll let you know anyway.

Re: Tear stains

well I use the pads from Dr. Foster's and Smith and they work well, I can control the liquid better. It seems like once you get them under control they aren't as bad as in the beginning. My boxer mix Zoe actually cleans his eyes I think she's watched me do it a lot.. At first I did it more than two times a week and now I go 2-3 weeks before I do them...

Re: Tear stains

good news travels fast here eh! i'll have to pop back into the pet shop and ask for some commission - he he! glad its working for you all, max has one brindle eye and one white eye, so i only have to do one of his eyes occasionally. msotly i just wipe his 'eye bogies' (as my 5 year old nephew calls them) away with a tissue.

Just thought I would tell you all. I haven't used kleen face for a while but Blue has had an eye infection so I'm ordering my third bottle tomorrow.
I'm going to keep it iiu this time. It's so easy to get out the way of useing it when the marks have gone but, Looking back at photo's he really did look better when I was useing it.

Anyone else still useing it?

Re: Tear stains

I haven't used anything on Sasha for ages now. I find her tear stains are fairly easy to control if I just keep wiping her with a tissue.

The problem I have with her is that her muzzle gets stained by her food etc and she the groove under her lip is completely brown!!

Will Kleen face cure that??

Re: Tear stains

Hi Karen
Yes it will work and because there are no chemicals involved it's safe to use round the mouth area! Let me know how you get on. Blue doesn't like it LOL
