What to do?

Gary has developed a small lump on his back (probably size of a pea), he seems fine in himself, eating, drinking etc as normal and full of energy on his walks. Have taken him to the vet - it could be an insect bite or just a simple cyst. She said to either keep an eye on it for a few months or have it removed. It doesn't seem to be growing at all and is not painful but I know boxers are prone to "lumps & bumps", some of which could be nasty. Should I be worried?

Re: What to do?

Well from experience - gixer had a small lump about the size of a pea we left for a few months until he had his annual mot!
Our vet decided to remove it because of him being a Boxer - it turned out to be a Heamogeona - a tumour cuase dby the sun making the blood vessels over produce cells. It was benign but if we had left it it would have turned malignant. I don't wish to worry you but she said it is common in white, pale skinned, short furred dogs who love to sunbathe - sounds like our babies! Gixer now has to have sun lotion if out and I have bought a doggie tee shirt to cover his back. Also Mast Cell tumours can be small. Wouldn't want to tell you what to do but think very carefully.

Think I would be tempted to have it removed, simply because then it's dealt with & you're not watching it and worrying, not knowing what's going on below the surface - let us know how you get on :bighug:

Gary had his op on Friday - collected him about 3.30 pm and he was quite lively. Eating and drinking as normal, lots of energy but has to be kept on lead until staples come out next Mon ... should have result back by then. He also had his epuli trimmed (thought it best whilst he was under GA).

Aww poor Gary. Let us know what the results are.

Sasha is off to get her epulis trimmed this month too. That'll be the second time.

Big hugs to Gary
