We had another appointment today to talk about Henry having surgery to remove his left kidney and the tumour.
Me and Brendan had discussed it for hours beforehand and were still unsure what we wanted to do before we went in there, but it didn't take long for us to make up our minds that it was the right thing for Henry once we started talking to the specialist. She explained the operation to us and all the risks and also the recovery afterwards. She said that from the CT scan, although the tumour is quite large, it does not appear to be affecting any surrounding areas and does not appear to have fused to anything either, therefore the operation should be quite straight forward. His other kidney appears to be working well from all the tests that he has had over the past few weeks and if all goes well, he should be pretty much recovered and have started putting on some weight again about two weeks after the surgery. There is still the issue that there are some signs in his lungs, however she said this is very minor and by removing the tumour in his kidney, we would be removing the main source of the cancer, hopefully once he has recovered from the operation, he would start on an oral form of chemotherapy to slow down the growth of any further cancerous cells. They could have gone ahead with the surgery as early as tomorrow, but we felt that just incase of any complications we would like to spend another weekend with him and make it special for him, therefore we have arranged the surgery for next Wednesday. She said to us that one more week would make practically no difference to him, it just seemed to soon to leave him there and for him to go into surgery tomorrow. Both Brendan and i were both worried as we lost both Tia and Kirei, following complications when they were admitted to another animal hospital and she totally understood where we were coming from, but also reassured us that no matter what, their intention was that Henry would be coming home to us. We have to take him in on Tuesday afternoon, to allow the anaesthetist to check him over and he will have the surgery on Wednesday morning. So this weekend we will be doing all Henry's favourite things and spending some quality time with him (and Busta & Pepsi of course). Wednesday will be a very stressful day, but hopefully he should be back home with us by the Saturday or Sunday and i will take a week off work to look after him as he recovers As for the addisons he had the tests this morning, we were told we would either get the results either this evening or tomorrow morning. We have not heard anything yet, but if they do come back positive they will just delay the surgery for about a week and start treating the addisons first.

We all had a lovely weekend - totally spoiling Henry.
He has been so happy and lively, went for a lovely walk each day, gave him all his favourite foods and spent the rest of the weekend either playing in the garden or having cuddles on the sofa.......he wasn't too happy as i walked out of the door yesterday morning to go to work though - had a real sulky face on and wouldn't even give me a kiss! He is now at the Royal Veterinary College ready to have his op tomorrow, felt so bad leaving him there, but know that it is the best thing for him. They should be starting the op around 10am tomorrow morning and expect it to take a couple of hours so hopefully should get a call from them early afternoon to say it all went ok ![]() He will have to stay in for at least two nights, possibly longer, so the earliest we will have him home is Friday afternoon, although we are hoping to go visit him on Thursday afternoon after work. Busta is being very clingy this evening, he seems to have really noticed Henry isn't around and won't leave my side, feel so guilty, thinking about Henry there in his kennel all alone and also for Busta missing him. Can't wait till a few days time when he will be back home with us and we can all get back to normal.

Had a call from the vets about an hour ago - the surgery went well with no complications.
![]() He is not yet awake properly, but they are going to give me a call back a bit later when he is. He is being kept in intensive care for the rest of the day and overnight, but this is routine due to the type of operation he has had. Soooo relieved he got through it, hopefully if all goes well he will be back home in two to three days. ![]() Will update again later after they call again. for all the good wishes

Another update on Henry, he is doing well, is stable and was up moving around a bit earlier, he is sleeping now.
We will get another call tomorrow morning and hopefully will be able to go visit him tomorrow afternoon. Buta has now become so clingy and is not even interested in his big chewy bar i gave him today, which normally he would demolish so quickly!! As i got off the phone with the vets, Busta came up and started licking my hand, like he knew we were talking about Henry - He will also be so glad to have him home

HE'S HOME
![]() Went and picked Henry up this morning, they would have liked to have kept him in for one more day but he would not eat - he can be really funny about food when he is not at home - the only thing he had eaten since he had been in there was a bowl of chicken which they asked me to try to get him to eat when we went to visit him the day after his op - he scoffed that down!!! But since he has been home, he has eaten some gammon and a whole tin of meat! He is doing so well and i can already see the little sparkle back in his eyes - he is very sleepy because of the painkillers he is on, but i can just tell there is so much life and happiness behind that ![]() looking forward to my whole week off work to spoil him

Henry is doing amazingly well ............ so much for keeping him rested and calm
![]() He was supposed to have total 'room rest' for the first two weeks until his stitches come out ![]() He was on Tramadol for the first five days he was home, which did make him quite sleepy, but since they have finished, he is like a puppy again, obviously feeling the difference on his body without the drain from the damaged kidney. We can already see that he is starting to put a bit of weight back on too - he has been getting as much food as he wants and has now got into the habit of telling me when he is hungry, by just standing in the middle of the room, looking towards the kitchen until i get up and feed him some more. Now he is not losing all the protein through his urine and the goodness is going back into his body. We have an appointment for next Wednesday to take him back to discuss the chemotherapy and for him to have his stitches removed. I really can't wait until we are able to take him out for long runs again and walks through the forest (approx 2 weeks after the stitches come out). We are going to buy him a coat too, his skin where the fur had to be shaved does seem to get really cold and the chemotherapy may prevent that fur from growing back (although apparently he shouldn't lose any more). I can't believe that we were considering not going through with the surgery as we were worried about how it would affect him and if it would be too much for him. We are absolutely amazed at how quickly he has bounced back and it is only now that he has improved so much that we can really see just how much he had slowed down before the op (as it was so gradual, we just thought he was more tired and that apart from that he seemed normal, but we are seeing him do so many things again which we hadn't seen him do for so long). He is constantly wagging his tail these days and the naughty mischievious glint is back in his eye again ![]() He is certainly a fighter ............... and we just love him so much ![]()
