Im sure you will find once the steroids kick in he will get his appetite back really quickly.
My mum also has severe rheumatoid athritis, she has it in her feet hands knees and shoulders and when she gets a really bad flare up that her normal medication cant cope with she struggles to eat as well, as soon as she gets the steroid injections her appetite returns within a couple of days then she eats for Scotland. Once back on his feet im sure Busta will regain some of the weight he has lost really quickly. Shona x

Went to see Busta again this afternoon - he was having a snooze when we arrived so they took us through to his kennel instead of bringing him out to us - he looked so comfortable with his big thick foam mattress with another duvet type cushion on top - i almost wanted to climb in with him!!
He didn't actually get up whilst we were there but the nurse said that his movement has improved further and he even gave me his paw when i asked ![]() I took some more treats with me, and some cooked chicken breast, but the only thing i could get tempt him with was a cheese triangle - he wasn't interested at first but i rubbed a little on his tongue and gums and he then started licking it off my finger which is an improvement as he just wasn't interested in anything previously - i tried to trick him by putting some of the cheese triangle onto a piece of the chicken but it didn't work - he is cleverer than i thought. The vet that has been looking after him all week was not there today, but will be back tomorrow, really hoping he will say Busta can come home tomorrow evening -that way i can spend all day Monday with him before i have to go back to work. Will be so glad to have my baby home

Got a call from the vet yesterday lunchtime to say Busta would be able to come home. They were unable to get him eating in the hospital and thought that by being home he might be more comfortable and start to show some interest in food. The problem was he came home with 5 different types of medication and if we were unable to get him to take the medication he would have to be readmitted.
He has lost so much weight - i have never seen him so thin in all the time we have had him ![]() Picked him up at 3pm and once he had settled back in at home we offered him some food and he just kept turning his head away, it was getting really frustrating as we really did not want to have to readmit him. We managed to get his first lot of medication in to him by putting it to the back of his throat and holding his mouth shut till we knew he had swallowed it - I really hate to have to give medication that way though as i feel it is more stressful for him. I popped out for a few hours with my sister for a late birthday meal for her, and Brendan stayed home with Busta, he tried him again with food, but still no interest ![]() When i came home it was time for his next dose of medication, again had to be given in the same way, but in a piece of a cheese triangle, once he had swallowed that though he started licking my fingers, so he finished off the rest of the cheese triangle . . . . we were on a roll now, quickly rushed to the kitchen and took some lamb from the fridge and he happily took several pieces of that and didn't look happy when i sneaked Henry a Pepsi a little bit! He probably ate about six or seven pieces of lamb, but then loooked as though he might be sick so i had to hold his head up and keep stroking his throat until it passed - we were just so happy though, that he had eaten . . . . . and had taken food willingly ![]() He slept upstairs in his bed with Henry and Pepsi last night (Brendan said he practically ran up the stairs) and he was up waiting for me as i came out of the bedroom this morning - it's so good to see him getting back to his normal self and back into his normal routine! This morning have managed to get his medication into him, but not yet offered him any food, want to make sure the medication is going to stay down first - he is having a little nap, but will try with him some food shortly. I think tomorrow morning i am going to have to get up an hour early before i go to work, Need to allow time to get his medication into him and be sure it is going to stay down and also a bit of food if possible before i leave - Problem is i already get up at 4.15am as i start at 5.30am - My alarm will be set for 3.15am for the next week ![]() Insurance really are going to hate us - His bill from the hospital for the week is . . . . . . . . . .£3148.31 ![]() This is just for his stay in hospital and all the tests they have carried out - there is also around a £600 bill at our own vets for treatment and tests before he was admitted - Yep, we are almost at the maximum limit for him too. We have about £250 left on his policy before we have to start paying for his treatment as well as Henry's - I cannot believe our bad luck - we are already at the bottom of our bank accounts and overdrafts because of everything we have had to pay out for Henry - really not sure how we are going to manage this? As long as he is taking his medication and doing okay we don't have to take him back until Thursday afternoon ![]() Anyway will keep updating on how he is doing

Great new thats he is back up on his feet...its good for him to have the other dogs around because that might coax him to have some more food.
What about doing something to raise some funds... ie: car boot sale, coffee morning or something like that ...hunt out all those clothes you dont wear and get them fired onto ebay... or wait til bendans not there and sell all his on ebay haha. Fingers crossed he continues to feel better and hes back to his old self soon Shona x

Busta is doing okay - he is eating again. He came home from the vets on Sunday and would only be hand fed all day Monday, but Tuesday morning when he woke up he couldn't get enough food. I had started off hand feeding him pieces of cooked chicken breast and he was wolfing it down so i put some in his bowl and he ate the lot in about a minute, next i opened a tin of meat and he ate the lot!! We used to feed them meat once a day and leave biscuits down so they could help themselves - he is currently on four tins a day!!! He really needs it though as he has lost so much weight.
We went back to the vets yesterday for a check up and the vet was pleased with his progress, but is concerned about his weight, the steroids he is on can cause muscle loss and his medication may have to change if this is the case. He is still on loads of antibiotics and will probably be on them for a while yet. We have started asking the vet for prescriptions now as we are almost at out limit for the insurance - i can't believe the difference in price. We bought a weeks worth of the steriods from the vets yesterday and it cost £30.30 - I just ordered a months worth online using a prescription and it was only £25.95 including delivery! Busta has also come up in a lumpy sort of rash on his ears and his nose, the fur comes away quite easily and it starts bleeding - the vet took a scrape of this yesterday to be analysed - our first thought was that it was a reaction to all the medication, but it only happened a couple of days ago so we are waiting to find out the results of the smear. Busta seems so much better in himself - his eyes are so much brighter and he starts wagging his stump of a tail as soon as we speak to him. He is still very stiff when he first starts moving but once he gets going he is not too bad, a lot slower than he used to be, but at least he is not in any pain. We have another appointment to go back on Tuesday - we should get the results from yesterdays urine sample then and they want to do another blood test. The plan is for him to stay on the very high dose of steroids for around four to six weeks and then gradually start lowering the dose. As we left yesterday the vet said to me, he is doing really well, but he still has a long way to go, he is still a very poorly boy - as long as things are improving though i am happy - it may be a long process but Busta is so worth it

Woo Hoo - Very happy this morning, Busta played ball with me
![]() It was all very slow, but his ears perked up when i picked up the ball and asked him if he wanted to play and he chased it several times and bought it back to me - Our old Busta is slowly returning ![]() We have also started taking him for short walks on the lead, just about a hundred metres up the road and back, but i think it is keeping his morale up and seems to loosen him up - he is doing so well and is just so willing to do everything we ask of him ![]() We have to be careful not to overdo it of course, but each day seems to be getting better and better
