epulis

EPULIS
Has anyone had or have a dog with this. It is a lumpy overgrowth / benign tumour of the gum tissue.

Harvey has just had his yearly booster / check up & prounced healthy & fit. We were complimented on his overall condition especially his pearly white teeth. :smile:

Only thing out of place was the Epulis. I have heard of Boxers who had this condition - Vet said he has only ever seen them in Boxers or Boxer crossbreeds.

This is first time we have had a Boxer with one ourselves. The vet said its not causing any problems & his advice is to leave it alone but just keep an eye on it. A decision we are happy to go along with.

Just interested if anyone has ever had a dog with this condition?

It is pretty common, Polo had some removed a few years ago, seem to remember they were removed while he was under anaesthetic for something else, maybe when he had xrays before his cruciate ops. Think his were cut off but they can also be burnt off I think. I'd go with the vets advice if there are no associated problems. Seem to remember others mentioning epulis in the past, if you do a search on the forum you should hopefully find some old posts/references :computer:
