Anesthesia for my Boxer

My White Boxer is about to go in to be spade. I have heard inthe past about a certain type of anesthesia to avoid when putting Boxers under. Can anyone help with the name??

Thanks,
Michelle
proud mom of "Lucy"

Hi Michelle - what you are referring to is a.c.p., or I think Nicki said it's called ACE in the states. You can read the whole post further down this page (17 below this one at the moment)
this link was kindly provided in that thread which makes interesting reading - I printed it out for backup when I took Polo to the vets, but I didn't need it as my vet was very understanding & used an alternative.
Hope this helps, & good luck to you and Lucy.

Re: Anesthesia for my Boxer

Hi there,

I'm the one who wrote in about the anesthesia for my boxer "Lucy". Thanks for forwarding me the information. When I took her in, they actually used the acepromazine, so upon my asking they used something different on her. The only difference was they had to give her pain medications after the surgery instead of during and she was a bit sorer than usual. All in all she is all healed up and full of energy. Thanks again, you just might of saved me from doing something devastating to my baby!!

Thanks for letting us know how Lucy got on Michelle, hope she's feeling much better now  at least if people know there is an alternative they can then make that choice, it's probably used on plenty of dogs with no side effects - but I'd rather not risk mine being the one to have a bad reaction, as it could be too late then
Looking forward to hearing more from you & Lucy.
