Lumps on scars

Hi Folks

Have any of you out there who have had a bitch spayed seen blister type bumps on the scar?? Sasha got spayed in September and I notice now that the scar is hard and there is a "blister" like looking lump on it at times. I am using the cream the vet gave me when she said it was infected but I am trying to avoid going back there to have it looked at - she didnt suit well on antibiotics!

If I use the cream it goes, but it comes back again?? Any ideas folks - you are normally all such a font of knowledge and a lot cheaper than a visit to the vets!!!

We are off to Balamory next week with Sasha and I feel so guilty because she has to sleep in the car!! Our dog sitter has let us down at the last minute and I dont think she will like kennels! I hope its not too cold. Poor wee baby - I may end up sleeping in the car with her - or not getting any sleep coz I am checking on her every 5 mins!!! :ohwell:

Re: Lumps on scars

Hi Karen

Sorry to hear Sasha is still getting over being spaeyed. We had a similair thing with Tash. We persisted with the cream and eventually it did go - the lump on Tash was at the very end of the scar. Initially though where the stitches had been the little stitch holes got infected as well. She had antibiotics which worked well on the stitch holes but we used to clean the scar with salt water and then use the cream prescribed by our vet, when we ran out of that we used an antiseptic cream mixed with nappy rash cream - hey presto it cleared up and the lump never re-appeared.

Don't know if it was conincedience or whether the two creams mixed together were of any benefit but she was OK after that. The nappy rash cream was Sudocrem which we swear by for our daughter as she gets really bad nappy rash when teething, we mixed it with savlon antiseptic cream.

It might be worth a try but it does sound like an internal infection so you may have to go back for more antibiotics.

Good luck, Paul

ps. poor Sasha - can you not sneak her in with you!!! As you say their could be some sleepless nights up in BalaMory

Re: Lumps on scars

Not long after I first got Sasha, she had to have an operation on her side to have a cancerous lump removed.

Ever since the operation, she has had what looks like a blood blister on the very end of the scar, but it has never gotten bigger or changed at all, so I let it be.

Last week a large lump appeared on the scar. My first reaction was that of fear, thinking the cancer had returned, but I have been treating it regularly with fuciderm and it seems to have gone away.

All that is left is a small scab now. Has anyone else had this experience on a scar?? Is it just purely a coincidence that it has happened on a scar sight where there was a cancerous lump, have you had blood blisters burst - or should I worry about anything else?? I dont want to have to go through the whole dramatic experience again, let alone put Sasha through anything needlessly.

Thanks
