Urinary tract infection - any ideas

Any hints or tips?

Lynnes Mum got a black Lab puppy which is now 12 weeks and iy got a tract infection after it decided it liked the taste of rock salt which was on their drive because of ice.

Jazz has obviously ingested quite a lot and now can't stop weeing everywhere. They took Jazz to the vets and she was given antibiotics which you would imagine would help and also make her feel better.

Unfortunately so far their is no improvement in the frequency she is going to the toilet and she is very ill - usually she is intop everything but since the antibiotics she is just curled up on her bed and looking miserable.

If any of you have any hints tips please could you let me know as we are all very worried about poor little Jazz, even though she isn't a boxer she is very cute!!!

Hope to hear from you soon, Paul

Awww the poor wee baby!! I haven't had a dog with a UTI so I dont really know how to treat it. The only comparison I have is when I have had one, and the advice I was given was to drink loads!

The antibiotics can make them feel lousy anyway and a UTI just sucks!!! Plenty of fluids and TLC is the only thing I can think of, but I do know that there are people on here who have had dogs with them, so maybe they can help more!!

Give her hugs from Sasha

Thanks Karen

I will keep everyone updated as to Jazzs progress, it reminds me of watching my daughter when she is ill - you feel so useless, you just wish you could take the discomfort and pain away and have it yourself.

Thanks for the advice, Paul

Aww poor jazz, I agree plenty of water should help flush out the system, if you can`t get jazz to drink as much as you would like use a syringe, we use one to give Clyde his medicine and it works a treat

Hi
For UTI and the likes - cranberry juice - you can get capsules. However I would not give to a pup under 4 months. The antibiotics will work, just give them time. Just be very canny though when they stop as the UTI or cystitis can come back and often puppies need a longer course - up to six weeks before the infection is fully cleared.

Tell them to start now giving her natural BIO yogurt, about 2 desertspoonfuls per day with quarter teasp honey added. Make sure it is BIO yogurt. Brilliant stuff.

How is puppy now?

Good news Jazz is getting back to her normal self - if you could call her usual self normal! Shes really perked up not 100% yet but I would imagine over the next couple of days she will be fine.

Thank you all for your hints, tips and links it is appreciated, Paul
