Another hello from Falkirk!

Just registered and thought I'd say hi. I haven't actually got a Boxer yet but I've been looking into getting one for a while and the time is right so we're off to view some pups tomorrow night. I've got my heart set on a white one and luckily there is 4 white pups in this litter. I'm already so excited :jump:

Any tips on what I should be looking out for. I think I've already asked the breeder all the important questions.

Re: Another hello from Falkirk!

Hello and :welcome: I live in Fife and have a 5 month old white baby called Poppy. Like you I had my heart set on a white puppy and the litter Poppy came from had 3 in it. Poppy is my first boxer so I only know what I've read online and you have probably researched the breed. Really you would want to know that both parents were heart scored (any reputable breeder would have done this). The most important thing I would say is that you see the mother and she looks well cared for and healthy and that the pups look healthy (they dont have weepy eyes or anything).

The breeder will get the pups vet checked before they are ready to go to their new homes too.

Good luck tomorrow, I hope you find the perfect pup. Oh and PLEASE take pictures!!

Re: Another hello from Falkirk!

Thanks for the welcome. I have promised my partner that although we're going to see the puppies tomorrow, if there is anything even slightly worrying about the breeder or the dogs then we'll walk away and wait until the right dog comes along.

The mother died giving birth, seemingly she had an abscess that burst. The pups have been hand reared due to this. The breeder has the grandmother and obviously I can view her. Would this worry you?

Make sure your pup isn't deaf as whites have a risk of being deaf, that is unless it wouldn't bother you

It wouldn't bother me tbh. A little more work but I could live with that, I'd enjoy the challenge.

First of all :welcome:

My Tizzy was hand reared as her mother died early on - I didn't get to view the mother or anyone else, but then I wasn't buying from a "breeder" as such - just someone who had gotten into a ridiculous situation.

Go with your heart, if you think anything is worrying, like you say walk away. Make sure the puppies have been vet checked and ask for their vet details, so you can do a follow up check - I did. Look at the condition of the puppies as well as the conditions they are born into. Has this person bred a lot - DO THEY HAVE A LICENCE TO BREED? Where abouts in Falkirk are they - I know someone there and they may know this person so I could get them checked out if you want?

Good luck :luck:

Re: Another hello from Falkirk!

This was the mothers first litter but they have the grandmother so I presume the bred the mother from her. I'm not entirely sure, I shall find out tonight though. They are in Ayr, not Falkirk. A wee trek but I'm willing to go as far as it takes.

WElcome Lisa - I cant wait either!!!!!!!! I'd say if they have reared a whole litter of pups they have been doing the right thing as its no easy task to hand rear a pup never mind a whole litter. So sad they lost the mum. Im sure they were gutted.
Have you thought of anyh names yet? We had Harvey several days before we got his name.

Re: Another hello from Falkirk!

Its only 14 sleeps now :waa: The name that has sprung into my head is Kai and now everytime I think of the pup, I think of Kai, however my OH isn't so keen on it but I think I'll manage to persuade him. There are 3 white pups left in the litter and it was sooooooooo hard not saying that I'd take 2 of them instead of 1!

After visiting the breeder, I have no concern what so ever about where the pup is coming from, altho I couldn't view the mother I did see the grandmother and I also have details of the father who is from the Glenauld breeders.
