Alert!

Thought I would warn you all, please make sure your computer security is high, someone has been accessing my computer and sending huge amounts of disgusting spam mail from my email address, I phoned the Police immediately I have been through hell the past 24hrs thinking about who could have done this, the Police were able to tell me it was someone doing it from another computer through file sharing systems, the internet watchdog is also investigating online account violation, just be very careful, i thought i had high security but obviously not high enough, I would also advice not putting your email addy anywhere online,

Re: Alert!

I've had that. AOL told me it was caused by a "Trojan Horse" getting into my PC. I thought that my PC had frozen, but the activity light was glowing bright red. After 5 minutes, I pull the plug on it. In this short time my PC had sent 5 1/2 thousand e-mails advertising Paris Hilton videos. My security measures were inadequate at the time of infection.

Re: Alert!

Will keep my eyes open.

I had something fairly similar previously when I had a Freeserve email address - they were unwilling to do anything about it though. Mine and my son's email addresses were accessed and used to send copious amounts of emails - we only found out when the hotmail ones kept bouncing!! We left Freeserve not long after that.

Since the recent problems on here though, we have increased our security so hopefully (touch wood :smash6:smile: we should be safe.

Sounds horrific Yvonne.

Re: Alert!

That is awful. My brother is always on at me about spyware and viruses etc so what he does, I do too as you just cant be too careful.

About year and half ago when I had Nortons, they had a tracking system whereas it would alert you if someone was trying to get onto you computer and how high an alert it was etc. You could "trace" it on a computer map. Everytime that happened I noticed the powers to be and it would give you the person's IP address. I think if everyone did this, it would help cut down on all the illegeal hijacking online. I have MacAfee now.

Re: Alert!

I wouldnt have thought that it has anything to do with where you left your email address Yvonne. Far more likely that, as Jill says, your computer has been accessed by a spyware programme in a Trojan and that's how they got your address and IP server etc. It is also highly unlikely that it is anyone who has made a personal attack as such, these things just strike where they can, irrespective of user or computer!!

Hopefully you wont have to deal with it again though!

Re: Alert!

I doubt they have the technology Yvonne. It is highly likely that whoever hacked your computer lives in Thailand!!

Try spybot. It's free and extreemly good.
Someone hacked into Darryles msn password ( dont know how ) we has heaps of problems. Got viruses that eventually led to us getting a new pc at christmas ( seemingly it was what I always wanted LOL ) only a man could come up with that!
When all this happend I had Norton. I now run 3 programs.

Re: Alert!

it is looking very much like a personal vendetta, i wish i could say more the Police investigation so far is pointing to a personal attack aimed directly at me, it really saddens me people would stoop so low, i am still hoping it turns out otherwise but it is`nt looking very likely
